price check on '65 engine?

I found a 1965 911 engine mostly complete...it just need machined. I comes with the carbs and all. What is a ball park for this motor?

Ask the Early 911S registry site, they will certainly know.

a rebuild is big bucks. carbs look like original individual solex. you don't really want those carbs unless you are going concour. suggest you pass and find a complete runner with webers.

What is your use? Your ’65?

Yes, buy it if reasonably complete and the price is right. You will find lots of help here and on other forums. Biral P&Cs should be easy to find. Does it include the OE air filter assembly? Rebuild cost won’t be any more than most other 911s, probably less.

Get the info on exactly what is included and what the condition is. This and other forums can advise you if things are missing. Use that in your discussions with the seller. This is very valuable if totally complete, less so if missing important (unobtanium) parts.

One of the few times I’ll disagree with John. The Solex carbs can work great. The only issue they had was the floats could absorb gasoline and raise the level in the float chambers. There are “overflow” type carburetors and can work great on track or on the street. With a current ignition and 40-year experience, they can work almost as well as the later Webers. Besides, they are original.

This is an engine I would install with stealth twin-plug.

Best,
Grady

My Goal

My goal for this car is to restore it to 100% original. The seller e-mail me back and said this about the carbs. "They are the ultra rare Solex 40PI "overflow" carbs.
With mechanical fuel pump." This sound right?

That sounds right klober. I have a nice set too if yours happen to be frozen or something. I also have a couple of the cam fuel pumps that you see in that pic (bolted to the chain box cover on the right).

Best regards!

i guess that's about right if everything is in there and nothing is damaged (other than 40 years worth of wear and tear )

ditto... not just small block, but the full thing including the carbs for a grand?
(i assume that with "and all" the poster means shroud , manifold, fan, alternator, minus pistons as he indicated)

it's a core basically. if you want to pay $2500 for an incomplete core, then fine.

I sold a 1965 901/01 last year for $1800.00 . It ran poorly(bad compression) but was complete . And was fitted with webers too . I think $2500 is way high for an incomplete core .
For $2500 you could get a 2.4 t motor complete and ready to install .
The only real value in the 65` engine is the case, cam housings, and crankshaft .
I think JW is on the money at $1k . Consider shipping too (if needed)
