Did a leakdown test this morning......
Cyl # % Leak Leak at 1 3.125 Rings 2 3.375 Rings 3 3.75 Rings 4 3.375 Rings 5 4.375 Rings 6 2.875 Rings Car has 236,000 kms with new valves, guides and rings by PO. Burns about 1 litre of oil every 5000 kms. Good to go for another year of auto-x, DE and tour fun!!

I have no idea what those numbers mean. Does "3.125 Rings" mean a leak down of 3.124%? That would be odd as every leak down test I have ever seen only uses whole numbers for leakdown percentages.

Strange, my car doesn't ring, but my telephone does. Please explain.

Charlie,
That must be one HELL of a large pressure gauge [about 12" diameter, by my estimate] to have a resolution of 1/8 psi at 100 psi! In any case ... those are great numbers, even if rounded to the nearest integer!

Looks like the data gets truncated when one does a copy/paste from an Excel spreadsheet. Damn. My home phone rings too, but the cell tweets.
![]() I will clean up the information. cylinder 1 is 3.125% leakdown cylinder 2 is 3.375% leakdown cylinder 3 is 3.75% leakdown cylinder 4 is 3.375% leakdown cylinder 5 is 4.375% leakdown cylinder 6 is 2.875% leakdown All leaking could be heard in the oil tank filler - therefore the air is leaking past the rings and not the valves. If the intake valve leaks it can be heard in the air filter box and the exhust valve would be heard in the exhuat tailpipe. A friend came over with a leakdown tester he built to aviation specs. Basically, he is an engineer that is a firm believer in high accuracy. So - mathematically the difference in the pressures was worked out to the 3rd decimal place. If you are more comfortable in whole numbers - round it off.

Those are incredible leakdown figures. A new engine is not much better than that!
