Question 915 trans question with pics, what is this?????

I cannot figure out what this is as I broke it getting ready to attempt my first engine drop

As you can see, it is on the left side of the trans and there used to be two tabs that come out of the bottom now there is only one . Yes brute force pulling does not work with these connectors on this car.....I know.....

I only have the hard oil line, the two engine bolts and the two trans bolts and she'll drop tomorrow night after work. All this for a freaking bad shifter rod .

I am finding all kinds of , how do I say this correctly without offending anyone......... "special engineering"....... while preparing for the drop and not to mention all kinds of very brittle vac and CIS hoses to boot. I guess I have learned a very valulable lesson here, I should have really looked at this car better before I took the plunge but I wanted a 911 so bad ..(sucker)

Anyways, what the heck is this sensor? I know it is not for the speedo, or reverse switch but is it for the tach?

This is the little sucker. I cannot find this in any Pelican parts listing. Heck, with what I've seen so far with this car it might not even be a factory part. The harness going to it sure do not look like any Porsche harness I've seen so far.

Looks like it could be an aftermarket cruise control sensor.

Very interesting.....as the "special engineering" finds continue.....

Here is another one, look at this shifter:

This is the old shifter, the moron I bought it from must have broke it and welded it (not even a good weld job) as a fix

I have already installed the short shift kit and looks like this now :

Now tomorrow I will pull the engine and trans when I get home. My tools all put away, garage floor swept and ready for another day.

Thanks!

This board rocks, full tech section, parts section and great guys to boot. Much better than the old Grand National board....which will remain nameless(stuck up wanna be corvtte owners...I can say this as I just got rid of one). Thanks for making a newbie feel right at home!

That is a home made short shift kit via a longer shift rod. Ugly weld, about what my weld would look like if I tried it.

It may be a shorter shift lever, but not a short shift. The distance between the hole and the ball has to change to make it a short shift. I have one of each one made in a box.

If that is, in fact, a short shift, it has nothing to do with where the weld is.

Could that tab be a Lo-Jack transmitter?
j.p.

Cruise control. There would have been a magnet attached to the CV joint opposite the sensor to trigger a pulse as the axle rotated. It probably fell or was knocked off in less than a week.
