Sorry to drag up an old thread but I am about to do the front Tarett install and I am not exactly sure how you get the triangulated nut plate adapter into place.

Must the gas tank be removed?

You do not have to remove the tank. Use a coat hanger to fish the plate behind the tank, then grab it using a screw fed through from the wheel side into one of the weld nuts.

I used a telescoping magnet thing to hold the inside plate. I installed a couple bolts without the outer ring and then installed one bolt through the ring. That held the inside plate in place while I added the outer ring. Overall the install was fairly easy front and back, but there were a lot of parts.

Chuck, John, Thanks....both sides are done. I used a combo of the coat hanger and needed the magnet on the drivers side where wires made it toughter.

Little more help...

No instructions came with the Tarett thru-body plate kit and the pics on this thread and others are a bit vague...am I right in interpreting the plate goes on the INSIDE of the fender (as opposed to the factory kits and pics in the Tech article) that show the factory install on early cars had plates on the wheel-side of the fender?

I see the "vestigal" imprints and have ground away the undercoating there to get a good mount, will prime and paint prior to final assemply.

thanks
