small 915 leak, breather question

I picked my 915 up from storage yesterday to install it and I noticed it had leaked a little from the area near the shift rod end just about where the ground strap attaches. The ground strap bolt on the case had been loosened since there was no strap attached. I attached a ground strap and tightened that bolt back down, no big deal. At that point, I remembered that the breather was closed during shipping and I had never opened it back up. Even though the tranny has not been used, would keeping the breather closed build enough pressure inside the case to weaken a gasket and cause a leak or is the leak more likely from the loose ground strap bolt on the case?

TIA

Sherman,

Pull the nose piece off and replace the gasket. Don’t let the reverse switch activating pin get lost. To be sure you get all the easy leaks you could also replace the shifter lip seal, the O-ring at the reverse idler and the shift plate gasket.

The torque spec for these M8 nuts (8x1.25) is 15.9 – 18.1 ft-lbs (13 mm wrench size). Should take under 20 minutes. This also lets you look over the gear condition and check for errant parts. Have your camera ready.

Best,
Grady

Thanks Grady! Box is pretty freshly rebuilt w/WEVO everything, stock gearset, and LSD.

Anyone have the part number handy for the nose piece gasket? All I see in the Pelican store is an entire gasket set.
