No Includen Ze Instructions? . . . Need Some Advice Momo Wheel and Hub + quick rel
Over Christmas (along with an upcoming Pelican order) I purchased the following from online vendors:
1. Momo Steering wheel - Mod2 Style 2. Momo 231 Hub for my 78-911SC 3. Quick release adaptor for porsche (compatible for my 78) But guess what? NONE of the items came with instructions. Not even the Momo items. (which really suprised me ! ! !) NADA! I've gone back to the vendors to ask for some directions, but until they (if ever) send me something I'm going to ask Pelican community. MY QUESTION: What is best way to install the Momo 231 Hub and new wheel along with the aftermarket quick release adaptor? As mentioned I have a 78SC with all stock 3 spoke steering wheel. Any pitfalls - FAQ or advice would be most appreciated as always. I took some pictures to give Pelicans a better idea -- THANKS! ![]() ![]() ![]() I was confused not to find any directions -- kinda like a husky hearing a really HIGH note...... this was unrehearsed: ![]()

I always install the hub first and get the nut finger tight. Then install the wheel, etc. with the socket head screws, get them tightened, then hold on to the steering wheel with one hand and torque the 27mm nut on the steering column shaft to the proper torque spec with the other. Should take you about 15 mins. once you figure it out. Good luck!

Just hold onto the steering wheel with one hand, or better yet have an assistant hold on to the steering wheel while you break the nut loose. Once it's loose you should be able to spin the nut off easily and remove it with the washer, then your steering wheel will come right off.

When you get your QR rig on make sure to post your impressions. I'm interested in this upgrade as well. I'd heard that some QR systems are a bit wobbly.

You pull the pad off the stock wheel. If you don't have a 27mm socket, an english one is close enough (1 1/16, but that's from memory and might not be right). I use an impact wrench to remove the nut-it avoids the need to have an assistant.
Jorian, I have an ebay QR like the one pictured on my 914-6-not the same brand, but similar. No wobble at all, but the wheel does move about 2 inches closer to you.

Pull the horn pad off. Then you'll see the retaining nut holding on the steering wheel. I used a impact gun to remove mine, but I've heard people hooking up "the club" to use for leverage. That nut can be a headache sometimes. It's a breeze with a impact gun.
Before you remove your old wheel make sure your tires are straight forward. Then pull off the wheel. NOTE: If you slide your hub all the way down before you get it where you want it. It can be hell to get it back off for some reason. I put mine on all the way down and I almost had to use a slide hammer to get it back off to readjust it. Just FYI. Now slide on your hub and check to see how your new wheel looks. Adjust as necessary. Hook up your horn wires bolt down hub, install quick release, install horn button, then the wheel, lastly the horn trim ring. I had a quick release with mine but removed it cause I didn't like the wheel that close to me and was loose (the wheel wiggled). Good Luck!

Oh, and nobody needs to hold the wheel. The ignition lock cylinder will do that for you if the key is removed.

Exactly right...Do NOT use the steering lock to "hold" the wheel... you risk breaking the mechanism....
C'mon....nobody is saying the obvious ? Remove the horn *fuse*...THEN... start trying to take the horn pad off ! ( you'll know why once you don't do this !). Grab the horn pad on the four corners and pulll straight back with a quick tug. Good to have your elbows braced against your chest or body...once it comes loose you'll go flyin'.... You might need a thin wall 27 mm socket or an extension... I recall the nut being somewhat offset ( actually, the wheel is offset) so the nut is not in the "center". Maybe some extensions with a normal height socket instead of a deep socket as I recall..... Lotsa little nuances...this is what I think you're asking about... - Wil

Don't take the 27mm nut all the way off before you try to remove the steering wheel. It will stop the wheel from flying off and maybe causing you some damage if you, like the rest of us, sit in the seat while trying.
Once the wheel is loose you can remove the nut and wheel without tears or turning the air blue.Good luck. Richard.

Jorian-I bought mine on ebay about a year ago-it identical to the one marketed by Racing Dimension (I'd include a URL but I'm not sure how to work around the bbs shortening them-search for steering quick release and they have tons listed) but was about 10 bucks less. I use it in a 914 ax/track car without an issue.
