Pointless Distributor
I am thinking about removing the distributor points and going to pointless. I was discussing this with another Porsche owner and he said that he had heard of a distributor out of a Chrysler that was electronic and dropped straight in.Is anyone aware of this changeover? I want to fit this to a euro 3 litre carrera. Thanks in advance.

You know, if anybody knows the answer to this, it's this guy .
He had a Pontiac four banger dizzy all worked up in his head for my 914. I've got one of his dealies in my SBC powered Jeep. I use .050 spark gap! |

There's always the optical points replacements. No need to replace, gap, set the dwell... etc etc...

I've had very good luck installing Pertronix Ignitors in these distributors. Its about a $ 90 (US) upgrade that replaces the points.

I have had good luck with pertronix. I got the pertronix II, but I heard for CD boxed cars like the 911 the pertronix 2 is no better than the pertronix 1.

The other popular pointless system is a Crane Fireball 700. Do a search for pointless ignition and you can read all about the options, installation and what people think of MSD boxes and whether one might be right for you.
Welcome aboard! What sort of 911 do you have?

Hi jluetjen,
Thanks for the reply. I will see what is available here in OZ. I am driving a 1977 3litre Carrera.lowered a tad and I have just fitted EFI in place of the CIS system. The EFI has given me another 15 Killowats at the rear wheels. I am yet tp go out on a track day to see the result in lap times as I have a few things to sort out. I will try to post a picture soon but I am not computer literate enough yet. Richard
