I just reread the whole thing. It is amazing how fast the car is given it was just well done (exquisitely done) using what we know works. The early 911 platform is amazing. Love mine.

Very nice build. Seems pity to sell it after all that you did.

From which vendor did you get the carbon fiber body panels? I'm considering a CF hood on mine to cut a few pounds.

It has apparently been through a couple of different owners since Matteo originally built this.

My buddy bought it from Matteo and has been the only owner since.

Mr Beau, how is Matteo? Last I heard he moved to England. I had several rounds of emails with him regarding getting the most power out of his engine because I was building a very similar IROC project at the time. He was very informative and definitely did his homework. It was unfortunate that on that journey to enlightenment, he put his trust in Timmons who was one of the early pioneers in 964/993 engine swaps but certainly not an engine builder. After moving on from that fiasco, it seemed the wind was taken out of his sails on this project.

Anyway, hope he's doing well in his new endeavors!

The backdate on this car makes me a little sad after reading this thread, getting emotionally invested, then clicking the BAT link only for disappointment. '74 RSR with center lock hubs circa 2010 was the pinnacle (page 72) ... a bridge too far since then, IMHO. GL though with no reserve you won't need it!

To each his own but I too preferred the IROC version of this one specifically.

Sold for $215,000. Couldn’t build it for that.

Definitely agree. No way it was built for that. A great buy, IMO.

Hi crew -

I purchased this car last year on BAT (my kids have named it the Blue Dragon) and it’s certainly a beast! Really fun to drive, turns a lot of heads and amazing fast. That being said since the build is essentially 20 years old there’s a few things that need cleaned and up and I’d prefer to get it somewhat more period correct. Since the long hood back date was completed it would be too much work to get it back to Mateo’s spec so will instead do a ‘73 RSR tribute. I’m in the Phoenix AZ area and plan on spearheading a lot of this work myself with support from y’all and a few trusted friends.

Issues/upgrades list -

Electrical gremlins. The wiring is getting old and with the previous 3.9 to 3.8 engine swap, backdate and a few modifications along the way a mess. I’m going to remove all wiring and replace with a new completed harness from Dennis Powell. Also , I removed the radio and misc non-essential gear.

Suspension -

I never liked the fox shocks in the car. I could get them rebuilt and tuned but want a cleaner setup. I’m working with Wyatt at MCS to upgrade the shocks to a dual adjustable non-remote setup. I’ll work with a local shop to corner balance and dial in.

Will also be upgrading the tires to Toyo R888R.

Interior -

The carpet is worn and it generally needs an update on the interior. The dash will be updated for the heat and radio removal and the cage will be mounted more permanently. I’m going to get the dynamat removed and continue to shed a few lbs on the car. Rear seats and belts will be removed etc.

Exterior -

She’s overdue for a paint correction and I’m going to replace the front bumper with a 73 RSR bumper and splitter.

Minor updates include utilizing rubber tie downs for trunk and frunk, light upgrades and dry ice blasting the under carriage.

Other random stuff -

Update the fuel cell. Maybe go to a dual fuel pump setup

Install transmission cooler

New shifter for the G50 transmission

Power coat some of the brushed aluminum interior parts that are a little out of place / fatigued.

Relocate and get a good tune on the MOTEC 600 ECU. Right now it’s mounted on the drivers side rear seat and I’d love to make sure the engine is running how 9M intended. I’ve been in touch with Colin already with a few other minor things that need fixed (throttle cable, engine shroud etc)

Remove the heater equipment to shave a few more pounds. Block off all openings.

Get the fire suppression system up and working.

Hoping to get the dry weight down below 2,300 lbs. it was at 2,360 so shouldn’t be terribly hard.

That’s about it for now…. Once I’m digging in I’m sure more items will pop up that could use cleaned up. I’m hoping to have all of this done over the next 9 months.

Sounds like you’ve got a great plan to bring this car up to the next level.
Please all your progress posted here.

We’ve made some great progress on the car so far -

- MCS suspension is installed.
- New tires (Nitto NTO1 tires and going with 315-35R17 on the rear and 255-40R17 on the front to wrap the 17” Zuffenhaus Fuchs) will be installed this week.
- All electrical has been removed and Dennis is in the throws of building a new harness for the car.
- All the interior has been stripped and the cab cleaned, dynamat removed and ready for new interior.
- RSR style bumper was mocked up and is now being painted.

Once the tires are on I’m going to trailer the car and have it paint corrected and dry ice blasted before we start reinstalling bumpers/exhaust etc. to keep access easy and maximize access.

Will post some pics…

We’ll taking a step back and looking at redoing 100000% of the electrical on the car, Motec included. Given that the m600 goldbox is no longer supported, the motec wiring harness is getting old and leaves a lot to be desired and since we’re knee deep already might as well. Will include a m130 ECU and motec PDM. Will get a 91 (probably a street and track version - street is detuned a bit with 7,600 RPM rev limiter) and 100 octane tune too which will be helpful for those track days.
