looking for members in Japan

heh guys,

I need some help from any members in Japan.

I have been advised that there are good deals to be had on second hand motors and gearboxes in Japan which i would like to buy for the South-African market.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction with a supplier.

Good deals in Japan? Where? I travel to Japan five to six times per year. That's the land of $500.00 hotel rooms and $5.00 cups of coffee

Can't imagine Porsche parts either being inexpensive or plentiful for that matter.

I'll certainly be happy to ask around when I leave next month.

Not sure but someone here in SA is selling second hand motors and gearboxes of Japanese origin, he mainly does Toyota and Honda but in his last shipment he had 3 Porsche motors very cheap.

He will not tell me his source although he is not really interested in the Porsche stuff.

Any help appreciated, might just be one of those to good to be true deals that I should stay away from, who knows??

I read an article once about cars there having to have the motors replaced when they hit 50,000 miles to keep emissions acceptable. Not sure if that is an urban myth or what. Maybe that's what he heard about.
If that's it, you should search for auto shops in Japan and see what comes up.

Hey Tony, Motors or cars have to be replaced/rebuilt at 30,000 miles not 50,000m. It is the ugliest and quite possibly dumbest law I have ever seen. Most newer engines are barely broken-in at 30,000 miles. In a country where a hotel "room" can be a space capsule that you just sleep in, this is rediculous. I could never get over the horrid smell Tokyo has and I was there for quite some time. Go figure.

Try giving Pelican Ithaca of Ohmachi, Kagawaken, Japan a PM. He has a ’72 911S which means he probably has to search for parts.

Best,
Grady
