STINKY LIVES! '69 Targa brought back to life!

A project update: I got Stinky running today!

I got in the Procomp ignition and Blaster coil I had ordered, and after a few SNAFUs today (and bumps all along the way) she fired up! Got the clutch cable connected and adjusted, swapped in the new gas pedal I bought for my other car that I never installed... tried to work some mojo on the shifter linkage (and need to work summore!) and then took her for a drive. Beautiful day for the top off! I turned about 10 miles on the trip gauge.

A little back story on it... Jamie (jpnovak here) and Morrie, a couple local P-car enthusiasts found Stinky with her PO in Houston. He had left her sitting in storage for about 17 years after developing a gas leak. He got her out of storage and had her checked out. Too costly to get her running as is. Jamie and Morrie went down and bought her with the intent of parting her out, and offered me the tub to cut panels out of for my coupe. The interior stank and the gas tank had a hole rusted through the top front, so it reeked of varnish. Morrie dubbed her 'stinky', so the name stuck. They saw how solid the tub is and thought what I thought when they told me... why don't I buy most of the car from them, and put my engine and tranny in it, and make it run?!

I swapped over many parts from my coupe, as some of Stinky's parts were toast. Gas tank, all the calipers, new brake lines, new rotors in the front, the seats, the engine and tranny... and a few other bits.

Anyway, another old Porsche has been brought back to life, and will be slowly improved as I go.

Here's a little video of her first drive (or the first few seconds... dad stopped recording before I got down the street!)

Thumbs up Sweet!

Sound's like you and I have the same valve's ticking

I guess that's normal....slight tick when cold.... tend's to go away after the temps get up a bit...

You must be thrilled...

These are beautiful days in Texas... Man I wish it would rain!! My friggin' house is sinking...

Yeah, I think she needs a valve adjust... I have no idea when it was last done. I also need to tear apart the carburetors and rebuild them... I think the float between #4 and #5 is sticking, and it's dumping fuel into #4. I heard it trickling with the ignition on back there.

I'm very thrilled! It's the first time I've gotten to drive this car, and the first time I've gotten to drive either of my Porsches since May of last year. Just in time for a local get together on the 21st!
