Portly PO means rebuild seat bottom; suggestions?

The PO left me a car with a very nice interior, but he has caused some substantial sag in the driver's seat. The material, etc. is perfect, but I think I am due to replace the seat bottom and possibly the springs as well.

Can anyone point me to a manufacturer of the spring set and (horsehair?) seat filling?

Thanks mightily,
Jw

Jw...........Why don't you take a look at the aircraft upholstery shops. Seem they do "complete" seat rebuilds. Just a thought.

I was able to shore up the sag by removing the seat, pulling one or two of the inter-spring support pieces, and sliding a double-thick pad of foam in there. The seat feels very solid and I notice that I sit up a bit more.

A few thoughts. While I was able to slip the foam under springs, against the stock pad, I notice that it might be just as easy to link more of the springs together to provide more support. Basically there are about five rows of "S" shaped springs from front to rear. Across these springs in two rows are six interconnection links that resemble a coat hanger in thickness, and are about an inch or so long: these link the S springs together across, from side to side. However, there are only two rows of these interconnecting links. If you were to create additional rows of links using coat hanger material you could probably strenghthen the seat springs and thus tension up the seat as a whole.

Easy to do.

Jw,

I'm having the sport seats in my 67S rebuilt as we speak. I'm having a new suspension installed that is supplied by Pirelli. It is an upgrade support system that should be better than new.

I believe that even the standard seats are built by Recaro. Maybe these suspension pieces will work for you. Ask an uphostery shop that is familar with Recaro's.
