Finally..after 2 and half years

Here it is! (I'm doing this the wrong way round really because etiquette says that you should really post pics of your car when you first join. Sorry about that but this car was all in freezer bags when I first joined!) Still got a few 'joblets' left to go. Nothing really major. Drives nice and smoothly after a few 'newbee mistakes'. It's a standard '77 C3 with CIS engine, and was originally converted from left to right by the PO. I've finished off the job 'properly'...re-wired dash, moved mirrors, air ducts, re built pedal cluster etc.etc. Totally stripped and rebuilt the whole car. Many thanks to all of you for your help getting this beast back on the road. Couldn't have done it without the information greamed from this site.
Cheers Mark

Great pics! Superb model year and I really like the way you seem to have taken her out for a bit of a mud rallying. Björn Waldegård style !

Also, the color is perfect on that car, one of my favorites!

I don't think I would have the courage to buy a car in 'freezer bags', but obviously it paid off for you. Great work. I'm guessing there wasn't another person who went for a drive on the 'shakedown cruise', as I see only one front seat.
Every time I'm in the UK on the small rural roads, I miss my old 1969 E. I envy you your roads and your renewed Porsche.

Freezer bags? You're a braver man than I . . .

A great job & a great color. Drive it!

Yep..you guessed right . The passenger seat was out cos I had all my tools in there! Required for the first few test runs cos I had the shifter set up wrongly. Thing we learn! Also..the car was put in freezer bags by me. Actually bought it as a working car but knew it would need some work done on it..quite how much work it took I totally under-estimated! Guess it was worth it but I've only just got it running and I'm still not too confident with everything being correct. Can't listen to the sterio as I'm far to busy listening out for unknown sounds. Is this period of nervousness normal?

What is the color? It looks just great, the perfect blend of "period-correct"-ness.
If I had one thing to say, put the periscope headlight washers back on, they really sign the model.

Great job! I know you're enjoying taking her out of the garage after such a long break.

It is for those of us who got into the deal with not a lot of knowledge. The first summer I had the old E (a '69), my drives slowly increased from 10 miles to 20 to 40 and I always had a tool kit and a cel phone. By the second summer, I was able to take the wife for a long drive and enjoy the company AND the car. The last couple of years, I've put around 2000km/year on it with little drama. You get used to it as you gain confidence in your mechanical abilities. Enjoy your car.

Great job. I like the color and overall combo. Congrats!

As far as listening for noises, I find myself doing that too and I bought a car that didn't need any work. I keep thinking "was that a new noise?" and end up turning down the radio. Anyway, as they say, these engines sound great on their own.

looks lovley - bet you are well chuffed.

Where abouts are you - looks a bit rural to be london, im in berkshire!

Is that an OEM front chin spoiler or an aftermarket one - the texture looks a little different thats all

I suppose you have read the warnings of running a chin spoiler and no rear wing and vise versa at high speed, if not do a search and you will have a few hours good reading

hope you get the last few things sorted and start enjoyin the car

cheers

Regarding the chin spoiler and rear wing. I've read/heard the following:

Front chin only is ok. Since the car is already heavy in the rear.

Rear tail requires a front chin. The increased downward force on the rear needs to be counter-balanced by increased downward force on the front.

I love the color. Is it original?
The no fog light front is nice.

Thanks for your replies! Yes..I'm pretty chuffed with how it turned out. (Never done anyhting like this before) I've learnt alot about spray paint, welding, wiring, engines, etc. All good fun but lots of work! I'll post some before and after pics tomorrow. The colour is 'VW Camper van/beetle' orange...there is no other colour this car could be! (It's all to do with the fact that I first learnt to drive in an Orange beetle with chrome trim..I see this car as the same thing..just goes a bit faster!)
