I'm closing in on a re-paint of my 74 Targa. I love the stainless and chrome trim look, roll bar, rockers, grille, mirrors, etc..
The car is currently black, and although I like black alot, having had several black cars, I just don't want the headache associated with it any more. Certain color yellows and burgundy seem to go well, but I feel I'm still searching for the "perfect" color to complement the early trim style. I've been struggling with colors for some time now. Please offer your opinions (and photos).

Have you done a search, as I recall some fine (bright color[probably in the x cross track forum) examples for you to consider. I would re-do it in black. But otherwise red holds up well. All year 911's look really good in black or red.
Regards,

Personally I think a Silver / Titanium / Gunmetal color would be really nice.

I agree with Bernard, black looks really good with SS. Had a '78 SC that was Guards Red with SS. Looked pretty good, but nothing compared to black.

What's the headache associated with black?

Black is nice, but if you like a change silver looks good with crome and its a color that still looks good when the car is a little dirty.

I personally was leaning towards gunmetal myself, my son wants silver, and the wife wants to keep it black.
The problem with black is it's so hard to maintain (clean), shows all flaws and dirt. How about white? The car was originally light yellow. One reason to go to yellow. like this maybe?

How about copper brown metallic. 76S, 81K miles. As picked up on a rainy day a few months ago. Still on trailer, but getting ready to move indoors. Lou

Going to be a tough decision here. Several really beautiful cars with the ss trim. Any shade of blue looks really sharp too if black is off the list. Black is not a difficult color to keep clean once you learn the tricks. But seriously how long does it take to wash these cars--20-30 mins tops if filthy? California duster 1 min. McGuires final spray and some microfiber towels--15 mins.

Stole this pic from GREYBEARD on the FOR SALE board (the car is for sale). This blue may be my fav color if I did a repaint.
The color is Iris Blue.

I think the yellow example you showed looked great! Yours isn't an early car like the pic but Porsche used to offer some really neat, distinctive colors that were uniquely Porsche -- the butterscotch, conda green, etc colors. I have a gallery I made from the 2005 Parade in Hershey. If you want to see a lot of Porsches of all colors, check it out here: http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album341?page=1

BEST color for stainless trim
Ed, I like that color red on your Targa, very nice.
what's the name of it? I also like the dark blue. I think I've narrowed it down to four. Black, Ed's Red, Yellow, and Dark blue. Although my yellow is getting shot down here at home.

It was a paint to sample from the factory, but the closest I can say might be Cherryrot....

I'm going to stick my neck out and say I think the bright primary colors (and minor variations), as well as black and white are the best colors.
