Jan 16 Angeles Crest solo run - gratuitous pics

Had the day off, the sun was shining, the skies were fairly clear, and I had a clean 993 cabrio in the garage... So, I grabbed the camera and headed off for a quick afternoon stroll along the Angeles Crest Highway (for you non-SoCal people, the mountain road is in the San Gabriel mountains, north of Los Angeles). Lots of gravel, not too much traffic and a great view from Mount Wilson.

Not too much in the way of other interesting vehicles. Lots of bikes. For the record, waves were returned by a Lotus and a Jag E-Type. Waves were not returned by a Boxster and a 996. Unfortunately, that's fairly consistent with my experience. Harrumphh...

Anyway, here are a few pics. Thought a few of them came out well enough to share. Nothing of calendar quality, but still a 993 out in the wild. Enjoy!

I spent the day digging a stump out of my back yard, so I thank you greatly for your pics!

Interesting observation about the waves. I wonder what causes that, as I'm a waver myself.

Definitely a nice thing to see after over 3 weeks of rain here.

nice

Nice Pictures!
Great place for a run. I am really in the mood for either a Big Bear or a Palms Springs run but cannot find the time. Oh well, it helps me keep the car under my insurance mileage limit... ;-(

Take care, Luis

Gorgeous pics Kevin!! I've always wanted to take that road. One of these days I will.

Your car is so gorgeous, btw.

On a different note, Chris is planning a SOCG run for this Sunday morning (22nd). You should try to join us. You too Luis.

Thanks guys (and to Jack for the photo arrangement). BTW - I threw in the one non-car photo to show that you could see all the way to the ocean from Mt. Wilson. Not sure how far that is, but I don't recall being able to see water from up there before.

I do like running up on the Angeles Crest - good roads and tons of fun. The sections with gravel were really only on the service road up to Mt. Wilson. The only major drawback to the drive is that cell phone service is almost completely non-existent. If you're doing a solo run and have even a minor problem, you'd need to rely on the goodwill of traffic to help you out.
