DE's and car insurance

For those who participate in DE's, what insurance do you have and is your car covered for this type of driving? I have Haggerty Ins. and they don't cover organized track events. I have been thinking about going to Limerock for some DE's through PCA, but I am concerned about ins. For those who do DE's, are you just risking it, or is there some special insurance you have?

There has been a lot of discussion about this. No normal insurance company is going to "allow" you to do closed course high speed driving events. If you ask them about it you might risk having your policy cancelled. It is likely your car will be covered....(ONCE). I have seen cars totalled at Watkins Glen and they have been covered. The questions start to arise when the car looks more like a race car than a street car. Hoop, race tires five/six points etc.
Now there is a company (advertise in Pano) that race driver David Empringham acts for and they do cover race and DE events. I think you get somewhere in the range of 30 track days of coverage for 7 or 800 bucks and there is anywhere from a 2 to 5 thou deductible. (depends on value/year/type of car).
If you have a normal unaltered car with street rubber and want to experience the track with an instructor, listen carefully and don't drive like my brother.
OH, don't forget to have fun!

I know not to bring it up, just that fact that they may drop me. I don't see how someone could pass off a track accident as a road going accident, without a police report.

We have our Porsches and Corvairs insured with American Collectors insurance www.americancollectorsins.com
They do dot have DE options available for all states yet, but you might give them a try. You might want to address your concerns to the lady who has helped me for the last 10 years...her name is Maura Craven. She has been most helpful, and can get things done quickly. I can speak nothing but volumes of praise for her (no, I am not affilliated with them in any way other than having 4 cars insured with them)

Of course, the collector insurance is NOT for a car that would be considered a "daily driver", but to have 4 of my collector cars insured for under $1000/year in total sure made sense to me. All except the G35 on the end are covered under American Collectors.

Trust me, get track coverage. Call the local track or DE promoter for local suggestions. If all fails, look in the yellow pages under "Insurance Brokers" and have a broker shop around for you.

I wasn't suggesting to pretend the accident happened somewhere other than the track.
A lot of guys buy insurance for their Porsche from a different company than that used for their home and other cars to isolate them from a policy cancellation. See the email below for more info.

Zone 8 - FYI PCA Insurance coverage for DE

Hi all,

I wanted to foward the following information that has just been passed along from PCA National. Please note that we do not endorse this program, each memeber should contact the company directly to see if the coverage they offer will meet their needs.

PCA National has worked with an insurance broker and underwriter who has developed a collision damage insurance program for PCA members who participate in PCA DE events. This program is handled by Laurel Consulting Group in Toronto and they can be contacted toll free at 866 518-1110. Ask for David Empringham.

PCA is not involved in this program, nor do we endorse it, but we have asked interested parties to provide coverage for our members. Each member should investigate if this offering meets their particular needs.

You should expect to see advertisements for this coverage appearing in Panorama shortly. I hope this meets your members' needs.
