Recaro or Sparco Sliders

I'm fitting a SPG drivers side seat and would like to use a slider. It appears I need a slider that measures 16" in width. Does anyone know which sliders will bolt right up to my 82 SC stock fixed seat mounts? Recaro or Sparco's?

Thanks, Dan

Once you get your answer, if you're looking for Recaro "tab" sliders I have a pair in good condition.

I have never used the Recarros, are they double locking or single like the factory ones? Overall I am happy with my Sparco ones.

Cheers

Thanks Jeff, so you had no problem mounting the Sparco's to the fixed mounts? I believe both are double locking.

No problems, I have used them twice. They all seem to have the same bolt patterns from what I have seen so that helps. I just went out and took another look at mine and the one thing I will say is I can grab the top of the seat and get a little movement (flex?). It is not in the mount, and it is just a little. They do lock very tight into position, fore and aft, and have quite fine (small) distance between the positions which is nice. They are ease to use and the hadle is simple to use. On my current setup they are further apart than standard and bending the handles was a piece of cake!

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Jeff , thanks for the detailed description. I've never used either slider.I suppose as you mentioned I could always bend or spread out the handle to gain some extra width. Also thanks for the extra boost of confidence in its structual integrity.

Much appreciated, Dan

To be clear.....not all Porsche sliders "lock on on side"...maybe the SC's , but my stock 3.2 Carrera locks on both sides.

My 78, 79 and 84 stock sliders were all single side lockers. I can't remember if my 86 or 90 were single or double, same goes form 87 944 turbo and 89 928s4. All but the 84 are gone now so I can't go check!

Cheers

Wil, my 82 SC stock sliders only lock on the one side. I'm not keen on using sliders for my SPG to start with, I'd rather have the fixed mount. Being new to DE driving it was suggested temporally. Some instructors like to drive your car to get a feel of what its doing and what its not doing to make suggestions. So the slider will allow some flexibility for different drivers. The extra inch of height in the slider will also help me get a little higher in the car.

Jeff, I have a suspicion that most stock sliders aren't double locking. As Wil mentioned they may have gone double locking a little later in the Carrera model.

Did some research before posting and it turns out Brey Krause sells side mounts specifically for the SPG, even the U to get the 16" required width. There was no mention specifically if the stock Sparco or Recaro sliders give me the 16" though.

Thanks again guys for the input.

Dan

If you are looking for sidemounts as well, check out www.speedwaremotorsports.com I had their mounts on other seats and liked them a lot.

cheers

Jeff, thanks for the suggestion. I actually have them and just ordered a set of Recaro double locking sliders. I suppose I'll just wait and see how it all bolts up. Hopefully I won't have too many modifications to make.

Thanks, Dan

The should bolt up pretty easily. The SPG is a narrow seat and the speedware sliders flare out on the bottom so hopefully you'll get 16" between sliders. The speedware mounts have two sets of slotted holes so you should be ok.
The tube is easily bent so you'll have no trouble connecting the two sliders.

Don, I had to reverse one of the Speedware mounts outward to get the 16" needed. Hopefully as you mentioned it will be a boltup. I just now need to upgrade the hardware from the tiny 6mm bolts to 8mm.

Flipping one of the side mounts is the way I had my SPG mounted. I was using Brey Krause mounts for the SPG and theirs do the same thing. The only problem I had with the BK mounts was that it didn't center the seat between the tracks.

Don, the Pole Position bolted up to the passenger side without challenges. Your right the seat does appear to be off center a little bit. Perhaps it depends on what side you flip around the mounts left or right to bring it more centered?
