What color would you pick???

My car is almost finished at Karroserie in VA, and the time to select a color has come.

It is an 84 911 Coupe that we have made into a 930-look (front/rear fenders + Turbo Tail).

I was thinking about doing Guard's Red, but with all of the time put into the project, I would rather do a more unique color. I can buy a GR 911 whenever I want, but the time put into this project makes it special.

Any comments/pics/help would be great. Thanks SmileWavy

Colors I am thinking about:
1. Cobalt Blue (love it on the 993/997, never seen on an older car)

2.) Viper Green or Signal Green (may be too extreme for a 930-look)

3.) Speed Yellow (seen only a few 930's in this color)

4.) Gulf Orange

Colors to Avoid:
I don't want any black, white, grey, or silver hues.

Oh yeah,

I am a 19 year old, and this car will be a 95% street car.

Thanks guys

Speed Yellow!

I'd stay with a solid, non-metallic color so you can touch it up with a brush and color sand and buff-out the touch-ups (like rock chips). Metallic colors never match when applied with a brush, especially silver.

How does speed yellow compare to signal yellow (the retro color)?

Heinz at Karosserie is telling me that a metallic paint would be better for the 930-look. He says that the paint will "bring out the curves." Do you think that it would have that big of an impact on appearance (that is the metallic paint making it look more curvy)?

Cobalt Blue
Speed Yellow
Mexico Blue
Tangerine

But if you decide you don't want a ticket-magnet color like the ones listed above, go with Sand Beige. It's an all-business track color that will look great contrasted against the black rubber trim.

And speed yellow is flatter and darker than signal yellow. I don't think signal yellow or signal green would be good colors for your car.

if you want big impact, then tangerine/ blood orange, viper green, mexico blue, and ferrari fly yellow all qualify. Of those the mexico blue would be most "period correct" for the 930 body. The 74 Carrera and other mid year cars had that color. There was at least one 930 in tangerine/blood orange: Eddie Van Halen's, so though unusual it was done.
The Ferrari fly yellow has more impact than speed yellow , which i feel is muddy when compared to the fly yellow. Porsche did paint several cars with this color under special order. We knew of a 993 TT that was done so with all black ruf rims- killer!

This thread needs pic's!

People often don't have the balls to do it but I think Viper Green is a killer color.

kuehl 01-17-2006 06:43 PM

Red, all Porsches are Red.

Yellowbird RS 01-17-2006 06:49 PM

Viper green

4.) Gulf Orange[B]

My ideal choice if I was in your situation or buying a new Lotus Elise would be this colour.

On a 930 I'd stick with darker metallic colors, if I was in your shoes I'd paint the car Porsche dark teal metallic...

I'd still go with guards red. They really look great, and I think if you ever go to sell it, there will be more of a market among the not-so-expert Porsche want-to-be's.

My car is a wide body turbo-look now with turbo, that is guards red- it was love at first sight (and at the time I knew nothing about Porsches, not that I know that much more now). To the uninitiated, the bright greens and oranges seem a little out of the mainstream- to sell it you have to find someone who really wants that color. Not that you'd ever want to sell it of course, but you never know.

It's also easy to touch up (non-critical areas = Rustoleum carnival red.

See, it takes balls to go green! Are you painting the car for you or for someone else (ie. the next buyer)?

If not Viper Green, try Kelly Green.

(I don't mean that to be a slam on Charles, he makes a fair point)
