Removing Rear Rub Strip??

One of the rear rub strips on the rear bumper is not lying flat. I can see what looks like a bolt between the rub strip and the face of the bumper. There is a small plug on the rub strip but it does not line up with that bolt.

How do I remove that strip so that I can get it to lay flat? 1987 Carrera.

When I removed the bumperette monstrosities, that ends of the two strips would refuse to lay flat. So I glued it with that twin-tube epoxy stuff from any auto parts store. Works great. Been over a year in all kinds of weather and it still looks perfect.

How do they come off? The ends are lying flat but the strip on the right is raised a little bit in the middle around that bolt.

The strips are held in place by a phillips screw underneath the plug at one end and by a bonded-in stud and washer at the other. There are recesses in the backside of the strip to accomodate the two bumper nuts on each side. Remove the phillips screw and pull the strip away from the bumper. It sounds like one of the bumper nuts isn't the right size or the strip isn't quite in the correct position. It'll be pretty obvious when you loosen the strip.
