Corbeau Seats Installation Experience
I am looking to get some feedback from those that have installed Corbeau FX1 or Forza seats in their 911.
How did you mount them? How easy is it to get to the mount bolts? If you have a DAS Sport roll bar, do they interfere like the Recaro SRDs do? Can it be done quickly? Here is my dilemma: I want to be able to yank the race seats, 5pt harness and roll bar and then install the stock seats plus the rear seats, in less than 1 hour. I can do that swap right now with the stock seats (I've gotten very good at it ) This way I can go autocrossing one weekend, and then quickly convert over to a 4-seater, so I can bring the family to things like the ALMS at Lime Rock, then be ready for DE at a moments notice. For 2006, PCA-CVR will no longer allow 5pt harnesses with the stock seat. I have one Recaro SRD, and it is a total PITA to get it bolted to the car. But to do DE events I will need a second seat. If I buy a second Recaro seat, I'll never get to the point where I can swap out the seats and roll bar in a causal evening. It will turn into one of those tasks you dread. ![]() For those who have Corbeau seats, how hard is it to get them installed? Because if it is easy (fast, with minimal knuckle scraping), then I will likely buy 2 new seats, and sell the SRD. Any help will be appreciated.

I have Corbeaus in my car and I could have the set out in less than 10-15 min. You may want to fab your own spacers because the hex bolt/washer is small compared to the holes in the Corbeau mounting brackets. Regular washers will concave due to the lack of surface contact.
I cannot answer the other questions so my help is limited. |

bob,
Good info on the hole verse washer size. Spacers are easy enough to make. Thank you. When the seats are in the car, is it easy to slide the seat forward and aft to get to the bolts that hold the sliders to the car? I'm assuming that is what makes it easy, right? BTW, are they FX1s?

yes, you can have them out very quickly. To take the seats off, Slide them back, take off the back two, slide them forward, take off the front two, no different then the stock seats. Or even faster, take the eight bolts off that hold the mounts to the body, and take the assembly off as one piece.

Very easy to slide the seats, and the bolts are quite exposed. I had the Forza 2's in my 78 SC. Make sure you sit in them first. You may have to remove some of the seat foam to lower the hieght. My Forza 2's raised me at least 1". Also make sure to get the double locking seat sliders, that lock on both sides.

Matt,
Forza 2's raised you up 1" relative to stock? That is not good. I have a sunroof coupe, and one of the benefits of the Recaro SRD is I drop about 1-1.5" lower relative to the stock seats. Helmet clearance is at a premium. Are the Corbeau bottom mount sliders that much taller than the stock ones?

Yes the bottom mounts on my seats really raised me quite a bit. I had plenty of clearance with the stock sport seats, and a fraction of an inch with the Forza's.

makaio,
I guess that rules out the Forza's! Thank you for the info. Anyone with FX1's?? How did they effect seat height?

Anyone with Corbeau FX-1 seats?
How did it affect the seat height, are you significantly lower than the stock seats? Do the side mounts fit onto the stock sliders?

I have Corbeau Forzas for both driver and passenger. I started with Driver's side, then added passenger side later. I used the Corbeau mounts with sliders. Keep in mind that if you are keeping your 3-point belts in, get the mount with the inboard bracket for the 3-point belts. I can take mine out in a matter of minutes: undo front bolts, slide seat forward, undo rear. Probably 10 minutes or less per seat.
With regard to seat height, although I didn't measure it, I don't think the seat-bottom is any higher. However, I did lose a little bit of head clearance. I believe this is because the seatbacks on the Forzas are more upright than I was used to sitting in my stock seats. Nonetheless, I still have enough headroom with my helmet on (and haven't had any complaints from passengers).

I have the FX1's. I installed them using the Sparco side-mount brackets. Needed to do that for helmet clearance and I am not quite 5-10. I dot NOT initially use the sliders, they were fixed position, which was fine since I was the only driver. I could still adjust some tilt into the settings by adjusting the mounting bolts on the side mount brackets. Now that my car is sunroofless, the side mounts are being attached to OEM Recaro sliders and will bump into the DAS rollbar only at the very far back position.

I have the Corbeau CR1's which are a adjustable back seat and they fit fine in my 83SC coupe with factory sliders. I have no helmet clearance problems in my car.

BB80SC,
Why did you use the Sparco side-mounts barckets and not the Corbeau side-mounts? You inferred that the Sparcos had more adjustability for height and rake than the Corbeaus. Which Sparco brackets did you buy? Any mods to fit the FX-1 seat? deoxford, "Car look good" I was writing my reply in a hurry. I reads like I am a caveman. :-) I meant to say, "The cars looks very good. I like the simplified interior." Did you use a RS carpet kit? P.S. We ALL want more hp

Hmmm, I do not recall why I did not use the Corbeau side mounts. I think it was adjustability. IIRC (I don't have the car), there are four different mounting hole on the Sparco bracket, allowing for a wider range.

Thanks

I have a pair of FX-1's with bottom mount sliders that are very easy to install/remove. They are possibly for sale, all black, like new condition. Please email me if you are interested. ewilliams@bmcgroup.com

Edesign45,
I thought the FX-1 were only side mount?

I believe the Corbeau seats have the opion for bottom mount sliders and aluminum side mounts. My seats have hardware on the sides for the side mount option. Link to site: http://www.corbeau.com/prod_index/prod_index.shtml
