Yeah I had wondered about that and had also read this thread below:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=214275&perpage=20&highl ight=galvanizing&pagenumber=1

But for some reason (possibly the thickness of the zinc plating?) it seemed to get better with later models. I know it's thicker on some panels than on others, maybe it became more uniform later. I don't know.

anything that's close to 30 years old may be questionable by now. especially the early years of galvanizing. in addition, there have been plenty of mid 80's 3.2 cars that have been posted here w/ lots of rust on them, so i wouldn't take anything as a guarantee when it comes to this.

Werd!!! :)

I know I have the full galv,
although lower body tin is vulnerable if it's coated. The ft fenders are loaded with water traps so I coated the clean insides with Por-15 clear. I deal with the por as if it's made of epoxy resin. Looks great and it's bulletproof to cracking or even routine big stones.

A serious rust point is at the rear t-tube. That's a structural issue.

I need to buy some POR. And a g-damn trickle charger for the winter! Otherwise I'm going to end up like that guy w/the turbo who crossed his battery cables.

OK,

I AM going to check out the Rosewood SC Targa next weekend unless it snows.:D

Thanks everyone !

Would the 82 SC Coupe without the Catalytic Converter pose any issues with visual emission inspection down here in Raleigh or are most inspectorsclueless about Porsches?

John, my '79 SC doesn't have a cat, nor the air pump, and passed emissions with flying colors. From my experience in MD, the inspectors were clueless about a Porsche this old. IMO I wouldn't let this minor of an issue prevent you from considering Charlies SC.

GothingNC 01-23-2006 04:07 AM

Thanks!

I've looked at other posts about visual emissions and they had the same results.

I guess it would be more of a problem if the Porsche was a common car.

I had the -6 inspected last year, cat bypass, air pump gone, etc. Really confused the guy when I told him it was a 76 with a 79 motor. Couldn't even get the car on his lift, car is too low. He just checked all the boxes and sent me on my way. Time for inspection again this year and need to find a new place to get it done. Here in NC, 95 and back just gets a safety inspection.

}{arlequin 01-23-2006 05:59 AM

just tell them the cat is inside the banana muffler

GothingNC 01-29-2006 04:11 AM

Going to test drive the Rosewood Targa today.:D

GothingNC 01-29-2006 02:31 PM

WooHOOO!!!!
:)

Congrats John, you've got to keep us updated and come to VIR, I'm going to miss that car!

}{arlequin 01-29-2006 05:33 PM

you will not be disappointed. there isn't a more overhauled car this side of rgruppe! every part of it has been touched, fixed, and replaced. i've been smoked by it many times!

GothingNC 01-30-2006 03:39 AM

It was a litle bit hard for me to accept the color but beauty is only"skin" deep on this ride.

Also it's not a repaint which is a plus and not a cop magnet color.

It seems like the the 101 projects and more for your Porsche car.

I'll have to attend some DE classes to learn how to unleash the beast without killing myself:D

John

jhelgesen 01-30-2006 03:43 AM

Contrats!!

You'll have to come to CMP too, just down the US 1 in SC. Next DE is in May. DE is the best thing you could do for your car.

GothingNC 01-30-2006 03:44 AM

Sounds good John.

I'll look into it.

Now if I can find a way to stuff the motor in my 73 Thing:)

Picked up the car this weekend:D

It is keeping company with the Thing in my garage.

Flawless trip on the way down.
Cold but sunny.

1st item is to fix the speedo.

It does not go above 80 and I heard it's usually a gear that breaks.

My 4 YO girl is telling everyone that it's her carhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/.../cheeburga.gif
