Wink Carrera in the Snow

Finaly tested the snow tires out in the snow. Wow, they are amazing. Funny thing is the 911 is the best snow car I have ever owned.

Tires are NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA RSi, the parking lot I drove on was pure ice. Il upload a little video tomorrow.

The weight on the driven wheels sure helps. I'd imagine the only downside is the lack of ground clearance.

Same experience here with my 911. Excellent on snow, especially if you put a good set of snows and other wheels on the car. As Emission said, its not good in high snow but reasonable stuff the car does very well.

...and ABS. To go is one thing, but the real challenge is to stop.

Look forward to the video!

They actually race these cars on snow-packed roads in Europe. Or, at least they used to. I've seen pictures.

Porsches are great in the snow.

How do you think I convinced my wife into buying my current 911, none other than telling her it was the safest snow car out there

She bought it hook, line and sinker. Actually I did take it to ski races for a couple yrs after I bought it.

The only real problems in the snow is the ventilation system, it takes forever to defrost the car but once that is done, your good to go.

I have two videos, but they are not good at all. You can kind of see how much traction they have.

It's an old photo but I'm still driving her in the snow. (I'm using a tomtom go 700 as a navigator instead of a tomcat as a pathfinder now)

Another 20 to 30 cm forecast for tomorrow.

I guess the snow tires make a huge difference. I drive in the snow quite a bit with Kumho 711's and it sucks. Stopping is nothing short of a butt pucker every time. Nearly impossible not to lock them up. I am moving to SoCal in a month or I would go the snow tire route.

Drove many winters in VW beetles. They were great with skinny tires and weight over rear tires. The gas heaters were a joke though-only worked when it wasn"t to cold out!!

Up above 8000 feet, it's easy to find even in California.

Tires

Good choice of tires. I purchased a set of those for my VW Jetta, they stick like crazy on icy & slushy conditions. When the snow gets deeper, 7-8 inches they are amazing. I can only imagine what fun they are on your car.

Ditto on the Nokian. I picked up a used set the second winter I had my 911. The first year, we took it out on the high school parking lot one snowy Christmas with summer Michelins. Wouldn't go, stop or turn. Parked the car until Spring. The next year, after installing the snow tires, it drove me to work without worry every day, and in mid-Missouri, we have snow and ice at times. Better control than either of our front-drive cars.

Reminds me of my old '68 VW, too, as that car always got me through the harsh winters in St. Louis in the '70s, but the VW heater/defroster was a joke. I had ice on the inside of the windows if I just breathed...

Snow+911=Nokian Nokian Nokian.

I have a set on mine as of two months ago. As predicted once money was spent weather remains balmy (for Omaha) 45F. Guess i can spend as much every winter if it keeps the white stuff away.

Wow! It is so nice to finally see a modern 911 in a rally, a GT3 no less. Thanks for posting that picture.
