Sorry, I realize my short reply made me sound like an a$$!
That pick above is a great explanation. The controller will turn on the engine room fan and control the flapper boxes and control the footwell blower motor speeds. It uses intake and cabin sensors to determine how much of each it will control.Cheers

favrok01,
You'll need a lot more stuff to make that work on your car, if it didn't originally come with one. Two different temp sensors, a different cable to the heater valves, lot's of wiring....I type too slow to list it all. Good luck, JR

Ok, I'll help you wire it since I'm feeling really guilty about running the price up. You should have called me I would have backed off. Anyway, the information I'm offering is priceless. I'm not sure what year car you have but for the 78SC it goes like this. The heater levers between the seats turn on the rear blower and that pushes warmed air into the cabin. I removed the rear blower in my SC and installed two footwell blowers when I back dated my exhaust with SSI's. The carrera's came with the footwell blowers installed. Some cars came with manual heat some with the autoheat system. Tell us what year car you have and where the blowers are and I will get into it in detail.

i have small vents on both sides and am planing to install the later larger vents with the footwell blowers to work in tandom with the rear blower. any ideas?? |

Ok, so its an SC. I guess you could use the speed switch on the console to control the rear blower speeds but I think it would be a waste of time. I have found that just using the footwells makes the heating system function better then it ever did with the rear blower. You also might want to re-think hacking the dash to install larger side vents I found with the footwell blowers and additional plumbing to the side vents that they work fine for heat.
Here are some pictures of the parts: The last picture shows the fitting that is attached to the footwell blowers that directs the heated air into the trunk and also to the side vents via the small diameter duct. If you have air conditioning then you will also need the wye connectors parts 13 and 18. To get the speed switch to work you will need to buy some additional wiring harnesses, the resistor and a relay. Shown in the second drawing. This is an electrical drawing of the basic SC single blower system: This is the basic circuit you will need to install to get the footwell blowers and the speed switch to operate factory style. Everything from pin 87 on the rear blower relay is new wiring. The factory used the resistor pack to control the first two speeds. The high speed was controlled by the aux relay in the drawing in an effort to protect the switch contacts from burning up. Although this drawing doesn't show it, its a good idea to use inline fuses at each blower and to wire the speed switch so that the blowers operate at a slow speed (same as position 1) when they are in the '0' or off position to help save the bearings in the blowers. On/Off is actually controlled by raising the red levers. The factory also did this. When I installed the footwell blowers in my SC I modified the original circuit because I felt that the high speed was just too fast and made too much noise. I came up with a simple three resistor setup that eliminated the need for the aux relay circuit. I used 2 -100 watt 1 ohm and 1 -100 watt 2.2 ohm resistors. The resistors are mounted on an aluminum plate and are tucked behind the passenger side footwell blower. My blower speed switch is an A/C blower speed switch that I bought and is mounted on a panel in my center console under the OEM A/C controls. The wiring color code of my switch does not reflect the wiring of the factory heater console switch. Here is my simple circuit: Here is a picture of the footwell blower in the cavity the resistors are the gold colored things in the back: Here is a shot with the blower removed, showing two of the resistors on the front of the plate. There is one mounted on the backside of the plate: And another shot of the wye connector going to the side vent: Lots of info here: Help! Does anyone understand the footwell blower circuit? And here: Footwell blower thread closed?

Does anyone have the rubber hose that directs air from the floor to the inlet of the footwell blower? It is #5 in the diagrams above and you can see it in several photos as well.
Thanks, 337 |
