The way i look at it; "Porsche" is the name of a wild lover who says things like "push me to the limit baby and I'll make you feel really good" Put your gum on the silly shift light and peg it!

What a great F****** thread this is....

... not only LMAO, but made me run out and drive.....!

Hummmmmmmmm........

Some very intresting thoughts here. May I give you some of my random thoughts on this matter.

Revs and a Porsche are are the same. When I am out driving and in the "mood" I shift when my bu$$ puckers!!! First gear is well, first gear. Second gear can put me in jail almost on any road where I live. The red line is 8000 grand so "bu$$ pucker" controls the foot feed.

If you are on the "top" end most of the time. Running big revs like on the tack. Put your check book between your foot and the petal. See my tought. If you have the budget, the disire, and the brain, run the "pi$$ out of the *****! !

Lots of "stand on it info here", not too much real information based on cubic dollars. Don't get me wrong, these motors spin like tops, and "love"it. simply love to spin. Gearboxes and the stuff down line cost too.

Someone chatted about lugging a motor and the stress. I don't think that it is the vibes, but the heavy loading and loading that stesses fastners. When a motor "lopes" it has to transfer large amounts of torque to the drive train.

I sure you can find a replacement lighted sign that say, "Pansies shift now".........

Huh 01-31-2006 06:38 PM

doesn't your cars with shift light use just a relay? My Scirocco does and I just pulled out the relay. Shift points are relative, it depends on the particular powerband of your motor. experiment with your shift points to determine what is best for your particular engine.

This thread comes up about once every year if not more often. While I have learned to drive my car a little more spirited since I bought it and never revved it up high, I don't understand some of you people.

Ian seems to make the most sense. Sure, rev it up, beat the snot out of it every once in a while, take it down the fun roads and wind her out. Go to an autocross or DE and clean out the carbon. But some of these responses are borderline insanity. Do you really rev to 6000 every gear, every time? To use Steve M's analogy: that's like not just having sex with your supermodel, it's like having wild monkey sex where you drag out all the toys, rubber sheets and leather whips. Fun, but freaking tiring if you do it all the time. Once in a while you want some fun, but don't need the whole enchilada. :)

Then again, this may be a geographic issue. Some of you live in places where you can wind it out a little more regularly. :)

I like your driving style. Post pics

...as much as I drive I also can't see any reason to have one of these cars as a daily driver. that being said, beat the snot out of it or don't why own one.

I guess the future will tell which ones of our cars (driving styles) will need an overhaul first.. ;)

dd74 01-31-2006 10:47 PM

Randy - I know I've asked this before, but why the hell aren't you in O.T.? My goodness, that place needs some new blood.

By the way, where to shift? 6,500 RPM on anything designed by Butzi's dad. Anything above 6,500, and it should be modified a bit more.

Hard to say. My guess is higher shifts are better than lower. I think the real key is daily driving keeps the motors healthy - hard healthy driving is probably better, as well.

or be born as an early S engine

for the record , i do not bounce of the rev limiter
and i don't redline every shift every time, would get boring

but i do rev happely , at least a few times every time i drive the car, and get a chance to rev, traffic permitting....

I don't know of another car that I would want for a daily. What car would that be?
