The value of my '74 track car just spiked up a bit tonight!
Thanks for confirming that I'm not alone in thinking this is wacky.

A lot of people with Momo shift knobs in their cars are rifling through their boxes of spare parts tonight! What's next? Four-spoke steering wheels with the patina of years of parallel parking selling for a grand?

You guys just don't understand, do you?
It came with a PRE-INSTALLED crimp ring! Now you can all apologize for making fun of the price...

I'm pretty mystified by this one... its bizarre. Even the early style knobs w/ the clear plastic (which are NLA new) don't go for this much... except maybe perfect NOS ones.
& poor '2428antonio'... he bid 19 times & still didn't win the pleasure of paying $300 for the shift knob. Currently available from Pelican for $88.25 + $9.50 for the retaining sleeve. |

I wanted a knob that fit the age (in terms of how much it was warn) of the rest of my interior. I am busy putting the interior back to 72 style and so I was willing to pay a premium for the fit. Now, when this thing went crazy, I clearly elected to get the repo part from our host. However, these are a bit like hood badges, tough to come by a NOS part in great condition.
Hope that helps explain it.

I put a B & B muffer on ebay, excellent condition - did not hit reserve at $100. Then I cut it up to make a new muffler from a dynomax muffler. listed just the body of the muffler - went for over $100... go figure.

Lots of times it just depends on who's watching ebay that week. I've sold parts where I had 2 or 3 of the same pieces. I sold the best one for $10 with only one bidder. 2 or 3 weeks later I'd put the not-so-nice item on eBay and 2 or 3 people would bid it up to over $50.
Luck still has something to do with it, especially if you're only listing an occasional item.

I've got only a few of these rare shift knobs which would be pefect as the finishing touch to your restoration. For a limited time only, the first 50 people to paypal me $200 get one. First come, first served. Once they're gone, they're gone. I'll even include free shipping.
P.S. Please ignore the watermark on the photo. These are NOS from at least six weeks ago. Any resembelance to the $88.25 Pelican Parts shift knob is entirely superficial. ![]()

Yep, the ebay knob is a dime-a-dozen used in good shape (they don't have the cracking issues that the earlier knobs w/ clear plastic have), and is still available from Pelican, or any Porsche dealer counter for that matter.
I wonder if all the bidders thought they were getting a rare NLA shift knob for their 72/73? |
