Peeling window tint

I have the window tint peeling along the bottom of the passenger window. Can this be reattached? It's not torn or broken just peeling away from the bottom up.

I dont think it can be reatached but I have used clear fingernail polish for a temp fix. this will keep the film from running

You could take a razor blade and make a cut then peel it off to that point. Get some new tint, cut it to shape and put it in place. That would last a long time, but you'll always see a seem there.

I don't think it's worth fixing. Tint is cheap! I would remove it and replace it.

Just to follow up on this...is installing tint a DIY project on the side windows? I don't think I'd try the front or rear but the sides seem pretty straightforward and the old tint peeled off perfectly in one piece so I have a template to work from. I'm not so worried about the cost but I really don't like leaving my car for a couple of days in one of those tint places if I can avoid it.

It is a DIY....however....it will look like it if you don't know what you are doing....most places don't take more than a day to do it...at least around here....check around....see how long they need it.

I had pealing tint on my 89.
I took it to a shop (with an appointment)
and had the windows re-tinted, they charged
$60.00 TO REMOVE the old tint and
$120.00 for a new tint job.
It took about 2 hours

Tinting is a DIY, but with the cost these days and the fact that many places will warranty, it's not really worth it to learn. It's a time consuming pain in the butt to not ruin the film by creasing it or having it stick to itself. Getting it cut the right shape and size, etc....

When I got my 87, the car came with tint that had turned purple over time. I decided to remove it all myself.

After having done some research I found the best way to remove tint was with a squirt bottle of ammonia and black plastic bags cut to the size of the window on a hot sunny day.

The bags are used both to keep the window wet with ammonia and hot from the sun. Bags on both sides of the window work best. I forget the actual timing, but the method really worked well at getting all the tint off.

Personally I really hate tint of any kind, but If I had a tear in my tint and wanted to repair it, I would redo the whole window. It is not like 911 windows are big and hard to work with. Crawling in the back seat is probably the biggest pain about it.

On the other hand if you did one window it may look off compared the ones already tinted with the difference in age, so you may end up doing them all.

Cost of self removal 60 cents and some time around lunch. Paying someone else to do it 60 bucks. Even if it takes two hours to do, that is still 30 bucks an hour.

You could save the tint job for the pro's if you are so inclined, but I think if you are marginally skilled, you could get away with that one too. Plus, you would get satisfaction of doing it yourself and a little quality time with your P-car.

FWIW, removing old tint adhesive is a giant pain. Got a tip to use baby shampoo...although skeptical I gave it a go and it works!! Leaves an interesting scent though...

$60ish to remove and $125 to replace the tint here in Tampa.

This job is a pain. It is not as easy to do as it looks...

Besides, if you replace the tint, most places offer a warranty.
