Name those connectors
Can anyone name the two connectors shown in the figure (see white arrows). I am trying to figure out where they go or they are "extra". One has two round connections and the other has two flat connections.

I have the same extra connector with the round terminals. I think the other one with the yellow and brown wire would go to the blower fan if you had not backdated the heat system.

yellow and brown are the rear heater blower the other looks like the connector for the thermo VALVE...THERMO VALVE !! The Thermo time switch lives on the timing chain cover and switches on/off the cold start valve. THE THERMO VALVE controls the vacuum going to the WUR.

In CIS cars the thermaltime switch controls when and for how long the cold start valve injects fuel upon startup.

The thermotime switch connector is different and the wires on that unknown connector would never reach to the thermotime switch.
When I pulled and cleaned my motor last winter, I found the same unknown connector hanging loose and just tucked it out of the way.

The one without the prongs goes to the heater blower fan. The other goes to a little plastic round thing with 2 vacuum hoses connected to it. It's located under the blower on a bracket that holds the fuel return line. Hope I'm right.

what is the 17A "thingy" and what does it need power for? Was it something for the highly de-smogified west coast cars?

Well, my car didn't come with a blower. I think it may have been removed by a PO. So I guess I will just let Herman and Cletus hang out... lol

That item (17A) is an auxiliary air valve and it does not have any electrical connections on it.

There is an auxiliary air VALVE and an auxiliary air REGULATOR, which are not the same thing. The auxiliary air regulator is also known as the supplementary air valve in the wiring diagrams, where the astute reader will note the presence of a connector with two wires (red/white and brown.) Ya gotta love Porsche and their consistent documentation.
Anyway, I'd venture to suggest that Herman needs to be plugged into the auxiliary/supplemental air regulator. JR |

"The thermo valve holds off vacuum from the warm-up regulator when engine is started cold ('77 - '79 engines). Power is applied to the thermal valve when engine is started, and approximately 30 seconds later, the valve opens. When the valve is open, vacuum to the WUR is then determined by the intake manifold. --The vacuum holdoff results in a mixture richening at warmup. The inner hose connects to the intake vacuum source and the outer hose to the WUR." JW

Does that still apply if my engine is an '82?

77 to 79...maybe someone changed the harness or the engine??
I looked at the connectors for the freq valve and throttle switches they are different from the one you have shown..which is what I have on my 78 going to the thermo valve. Do you have the lambda system? maybe its time to check serial numbers.
