Exhaust Back Dating Question

"Search" does not yield.

Besides the HE's and muffler, what is required to back date a 1980Sc to earlier exhaust ?

exhaust studs
The exhaust studs coming out of an SC are for thick flanged headers. If you have bought an older set of HE's they will be thin flanged. If you don't break the studs removing the old HE's from the car you can stack washers (I didn't but some on this board have) or relace the studs with the shorter mm ones . The host sells both
You will have to weld in a bung for the O2 sensor if you want to still run one or just disconnect it

They have to be routed and early lines used....or you can make them using old fittings and hydralic lines from the local trucker/forklift shop......OR Porsche metric to AN adapters and braided aircraft hose.

Is there a source for the correct lines ?
Anyone have any pics if these have to be custom made?

SSI makes an aftermarket stainless steel replacement heat exchanger. I believe that they also have a source for the oem hoses...as well as Pelican.

The custom made ones are done by the owner....measure to fit.

I found a listing in pelican's parts for a metal line with note "for backdated HE's"
Is this the only line needed?

Sorry to ask so many Q's, I would like to have all required parts on hand to do the backdate without having the car out of comission too long waiting on parts.

Have you got the old HE's off yet. If not start soaking them in PB Blaster now. Do a search and you will find all kinds of experiences in removing the old HE's

Yes, you need two oil lines. A hard one and another one that has a crimped piece of hose. Yes, what PP lists as the conversion lines is exactly what you will need.

You also will need to re-route your heating ducts. Most people backdate their heat at the same time. A search should yield a wealth of information.

If you have the bucks, go with SSI.

Invaluable info guys, MUCH appreciated.
Getting the old HE's off will not be a problem for me.
Backdating the heat ducts was on the list anyway, 2 birds....1 stone ya know.

GrantA, excellent link.
