Modifying rear bumpers
Has anyone had much success modifying their rear bumpers so they contour after adding SC flares? This would be for the early stlye bumpers-71'. I was looking at it last night and could decide if it was worth it.

If you had the end pieces that go with the RS steel bumper, you could "flare" your steelies to match. You would need some serious metal working tools.

I just wish there was a source for longer rubber strips for mid year cars that would allow removal of the big bumper blocks and just run the rubber strip in their place....not to hijack the tread....
|
What about using an extra rubber strip from the front bumer? Might not be a perfect match, but it would get you close.

I dont want it to look cobbled up....although I did just have a thought...I will let you know if I figure out something....

The stock metal rear bumper of my 73 was modified to match with the RS flares. You first cut off the outer end of the bumper. Then you align the cut piece with the fender and weld a metal filler strip in the gap between the two segments (ca. 3/4" wide). A good body shop should be able to make it fit.

That looks sweet!!!!!!!!!!

That looks like a different style bumper. The extention would seem to be more difficult using an early bumper.
