The New Cayman uh..... Boxter

Saw the Cayman yesterday at the Phila. Auto show. Sat in it and then sat in the Boxter.....

Can anyone (without looking at the pic title) tell me which is the Boxter and which one is the Cayman?

I believe the top photo is the Cayman because it has the center hump for the clock.

While the pic title can easily be changed. My first impresssion is that the top one is the Boxster because of the shape of the windshield. I assume the Cayman probably has a slightly different curve of the front windshield.

Why would you expect the interiors to be any different? Production numbers would not allow an interior redesign. Even though I think it would be VERY GOOD if someone would redesign that PT Cruiser interior.

I couldn't tell the difference, but I agree with aigel. Porsche has been pretty straight forward in stating that the Cayman borrows a fair amount from the Boxster.

Had a chance to see the Boxman at a dealership the other day. When you see it in person, it looks much more like a Boxster then in print. I guess unless you stand back at a distance and lower your viewing point to a foot off the ground, can you appreciate the rear hatch treatment.

I would think that the top is the Cayman. The bottom is plain which is usually indicative to a convertible car. Simple and not overly appealing so people won't try to steal your stuff or if it gets caught out in the rain you don't have much to ruin. But given the two angles not much to differentiate between the two.

Boxster got it's name from "boxer" and "roadster" put together.

It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to be a roadster-coupe.

Not that Cayman makes much sense either.

It's a nice little sports car no doubt however, for 70K+ I personally would not even consider it...

Many of the folks attending the Black Tie event at the car show had the means to afford the car but the consensus was the Cayman is a 45K'ish automobile out the door. Tax, license and fee's included.

One gentleman got out of the car and was speaking to a Porsche Rep. about the car and laughed out loud when the Rep said the car as shown was out the door at 74.5K.....

I am sure that this car is for some folks and I am not a Cayman/Boxter basher. I think they are very nice cars. But, getting what you pay for is out of synch with this car.

It just confirms that my search for an upgrade is still in the realm of Carrera 2S.

"Boope"? Or "Boupe" if you want to be more continental.

Ya know, after a LOT of consideration and soul searching, I've decided that a '02 or '03 C4S is more car for the money and has already taken its big depreciation hit. The price of the Cayman and the potential big depreciation have really steered me away from it.

What caught my eye on the bottom pic was the side bolster mounted lever to tilt the seat forward, as to access the rear hatch from the cockpit.

If you get a C4S, you can probably keep the 84 too. The 996 market will probably keep dropping making it a little more affordable.

Why in the world if the market for the 996's is dropping... does it not send a signal to PCA that they have somewhat dropped the ball on design, pricing and style of their cars.

If they truely believe that people will pay 70K+ for a Boxter Coupe they are in another world. Folks that can afford to buy cars in that price range have been around the block a few times and there is only so much that can be attributed to brand loyalty.

PCA..get a grip and get back to reality.

the point of the cayman was to have an inbetween car. The coupe style is more rigid but you get the mid engine design of the boxster with more hp and they get 911 stuff too. I think it is a great inbetween. Out of the box it kicks butt and easier to drive than a 911. The Cayman is supposed to be more forgiving. That of course is what I have read and have no experience in the cayman. I am just learning my new to me SC. You always have to start somewhere and the new Porsche generation enthusiast needs a starting point. Today's generation normally won't go to an old 911 because of the upkeep. The new buyers don't even really know much about cars, they just buy them. It is something for an up sale from a boxster.

I'm thinking about one of these (or maybe the Cayman)...

How can anyone not think this is a beautiful car?
