Trunk Carpet

If you are not concerned about having the trunk liner being the OEM type grey felt, this is an inexpensive alternative. I used marine grade latex backed carpet from Lowes. Total cost of carpet and snap kit was $25. It's also available in a grey color but I used black to match the interior colors.

Please note the ultra-lightweight hood prop.

Looks nice. I find the felt carpet in my SC's trunk to be a real PITA to clean. Would this carpet you put in be easier to vacuum? I imagine you used the old stuff as a template.

Re: the carpet:

It is very easy to vacuum ( of course everything that needs to be vacuumed really shows up on the black).. The original felt liner was stained, stiff, and impossible to clean.

Yes, the snap kit is available at lowe's (good luck finding anyone who knows where they are though, after being sent in about 4 different directions, I finally just stumbled upon them).

I used the old liner as a pattern.

Also, Wiess metal shears cut right through it, regular scissors just gnaw at it.

How much and what width carpet did you buy? Sounds like a good idea to me.

Jack,
When you stumbled upon them, in what section did you find them, so the rest of us dont have to stumble around?
Thanks,
Paul

Where did you find the Marine grade carpet, is it simply in the carpet department?

It comes standard in 60" width. I believe i bought 5 linear feet and it was $4 something a foot. As my memory isn't so hot, probably be best to measure the widest part of the two side pieces and the bottom piece, best to have to much than not enough.

It took a little over an hour to cut the 3 pieces and install the snaps.

Sorry for the slow response, been out driving around in the P-car

As for another drink, I'll drink to that....

The marine carpet is in the carpet section, on a big rotating mechanism where they store their in-stock stuff.

The snap kits were in the same section as the Arrow type hand staplers. At least that's where they were in the local store. The snap kits are also available at any marine store such as West Marine (but being as they are for boats, they are much more expensive there as any of you boat owners will know)

Thanks for posting your idea, and thanks for pointing the rest of us in the right direction.
