dash pad swap w/ 993 or 964 dash

I am looking to replace my cracked single vent '86 dash pad. I thought I might have a better chance finding nice used 993 or 964 dash than a 911 dash. Does anyone have any advice on whether I should stick with a mid to late '80s dash or if it is fairly easy to swap with a newer model dash. Does it require a lot of modification to use a newer dash from a 964 or 993? Also, I have heard that the swap is easier with a 993 dash?
Thanks

Graphite, as everyone will tell first "search" is your friend. I found a couple of good threads real quick. I would post them for you but I am seriously technically challenged. Just hit search and dash swap and you will find them. I have seen it done and it can be a very cool swap. Good luck.
