17" Lindsay??
Does anyone have experience running a Fuchs 7X16 up front and an Lindsay/Fuchs 8X17 in the back on an 84 Carrera for street application. I have been thinking of sending the 6X16 to Lindsay to make into 17" and moving the 7X16 to the front. If this can be done what tire sizes would work best?

Ithink Jack Olsen is running Linday's on his car. But they're bigger than 7's and 8's.

True - don;t waste your time with 8's on the back - go atleast 9 or 9.5. I have 9" fuchs on mine - AND 17m spacers and still room...

In order to maintain similar circumference I will have to go with 225/50X16 up front and 235/45X17 in the rear. I have no problem going with 9" in the back and believe the fit is OK as mentioned. I am more concerned with the 7" in the front with that tire size and whether they will cause fender rubbing. With those tires and different wheel size will it cause any tracking problems or erratic steering qualities? I know the NSX produced by Honda had different size wheels front to back.

225 may rub. You will have to roll the fender lips for clearance.
You may also experience rub on the inner wheel well. The Tire Rub Prevention kit from our host can help with both clearance problems: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_SUSstr_pg3.htm#item12 ![]()

I'd go with 9.5's in the back and 7's in the front. On my SC-flared early car, I had one set of 8x10x17's for track use, and one set of 8x9x17's for street, back when the 9's were still available. 9.5's with 245 or 255 tires would work great.

mine rub from time to time. But the benefit of modern tires and the width are well worth it IMHO

James--did you have to move your oil lines or shave spring plate nuts? Fenders rolled or cut?

the oil lines are run in the pan. there is a lot of negative camber and other tweeks done to this car.

A $75 tire rub kit from Pelican!?!?!? That just seems outrageous to me for a simple problem (that doesn't REALLY need to be solved).
~6 yrs ago I failed MD inspection because I had rub marks on my inner fenders. I cut ~1/2" lengths of PVC pipe, slotted them into a "C", slid the boots back, and snapped them over the rack arms. Same effect, no need to remove the tie rod, and about $0.10 of material. The elephant racing solution is massively over engineered. SMD

Less brakes, more gas!

As to wheels, There was someone here running 16 front 17 rear and it looked great... I just can remember who... Myself, I am considering going all 17's as I would prefere to have the wheels look exactly the same...
As to the price... the rub kit looks just like a rack spacer and those things are cheap... Still, it also sounds like a bandaid and not a fix as you are now limiting your lock to lock. But, if you have your wheel at lock... you are probably in more trouble that you think! ![]() ...unless you are in a parking lot... I like the PVC idea. You could probably even do it with copper and collapse longitudinally with a wire tie if you felt that the PVC might shatter... -m

As a track-side bandaid, PVC sounds like a creative save that let you run that day. But like most zip-tied / duct-tapped track-side engineering solutions I wouldn't use it on a going basis. IMHO, PVC will not hold up to continued use as a steering rack travel limiter, and the chips that come off will end up in the rack and pinion.
As for change in lock-to-lock range, the impact is small. The 911 has generous range to begin, enough that with the kit adjusted for maximum tire clearance there is plenty of steering lock range available. Further, if your tires are rubbing the inner wells, they're already limiting full-lock travel, so you really aren't giving up anything here, except the rub! I run 235/17 on the front of my narrow body with no rubbing issues.
