Please help...I am a novice who is trying to find a part for a '83 911 SC Targa.
In the manuals I have, there is a plug that goes into the top of the airflow sensor housing...it looks like a small dipstick type...my car doesn't have one. My car's idle has always been a bit shady. A certified mechanic pointed out this missing plug in a routine check-up. I have spent countless days attempting to find this plug for sale anywhere, once again, I'm a novice to the Porsche world. Dealers don't answer my questions because I'm not interested in buying a $300K Porsche and none of the websites I have asked have had the decency to respond. I stumbled onto Pelican today. Totally exasperated! Appreciate any help in tracking one down or telling me where to go...crazy, or preferably a store. Thanks in advance. er8ser |

er8ser,
It's not really a critical piece. It's put there to keep crud out of mixture adjustment hole, and it's not going to affect your idle at all. If you're upset by it, just make one out of a piece of wire and a little rubber plug of some type. ianc

Thanks ianc.
I'm only upset by the lack of customer service I've encountered...I asked because the mechanic, a PORSCHE trained/certified mechanic at a dealership, told me it was probably why my car's idle was surging. The car runs great and I am going to sell it so I want to make sure it isn't missing this "vital" component on a completely rebuilt engine. Anyone else? er8ser |

The plug you seek likely isn't causing the idle surging problem. PN 91111093400 (type in the search Pelican parts box above); Pelican sells for $12.75.
Your car is likely too old for most Porsche dealerships to properly fix; find an independent shop that specializes in older 911's. |

I was amused by my one attempt to buy something from a certified Porsche dealer... I wanted to replace some burned-out lightbulbs in my instruments, simple enough right? The parts guy looked at me like he didn't think it was a Porsche part and asked me where it went. He did find it in the computer but they didn't have any in stock but would order them for me. I found them at O'Reilly's a bit cheaper.

Your fuel mixture needs to be set (most likely). Do a search on this forum using keywords "CIS" and "surging" . You will be pleased with the amount of info.
BTW a certified , trained , know this know that factory tech will likely only know as much as you do about the fuel injection (its called CIS) on your 83` . Stay away from the dealer . Especially in light of the diagnoses you have allready been given. Kurt Wiliams
