VIN Check/Value? for 1971 911E
Can anyone give me advice on what web sites to use for a VIN check and Engine number check. I want to research the options and engine specs for my new restoration project.
Please break it down to "hooked on Phonics" for the less knowledgeable. Regards, Louie

If you are trying to find out if you project car has "matching numbers" then you need the Kardex or COA from Porsche. If you just want to know if the engine number is within the correct range of your VIN, then this chart will help:

I have more info Now!
It's a 1971E with Euro gauges. The VIN is 9111210433
The Engine is, I belive a 2.7 ? with MFI (not CIS- back dated) that is not original, the number on the case is 6551315 and the Type code is 911/44 from a 1975 911S. The Fan shroud number is 901.106.101.5R Currently has a 901 5- speed tranny (engine and trans are out) It has a 1980 911SC front suspension Unique color code is 1412-L (looks like signal orange) Can someone give me an opinion on the value of this with a complete restoration and where I can find more ifo on it. Thanks, Louie

Quote:
That's a very difficult question to answer. The short answer is that a '71E with non-original engine will probably never bring enough money to justify the cost of a complete restoration. It might be the basis for a good hot-rod or just a nice driver, though. I just wouldn't go nuts with pouring money in it and expect to get it all back out on resale. The cars that are bringing the big money are usually in very original condition with low mileage. As far as more info on it goes, you might try the 911E Registry or the Early 911S Registry for more info on the early cars. Good luck, TT
