How do I get the electic cabriolet top down?
I have a theft recovery 88 930 cabriolet that I'm getting back on the road. I can't figure out how to get the top down. Can anyone clue me in?
Thanks- Craig Backer |

Can you post any additional info on what you are doing, what is the top doing, or not doing?
Are you attempting to operate the top in the prescribed method? Is this your theft recovery car, or one you just purchased? In other words, have you operated a power top before, or is this a new car to you, and you're unfamiliar on what button to push?

This is a theft recovery I bought recently. I have never operated this or any convertable top. This one is electric. I tried pushing the button that is where the sunroof button would be but nothing happens.

What position was the key in ? You have to have the key in a certain position for the top to work . If the top starts to open and binds up , stop right there and try no more or you run the risk of breaking the frame .

The 86 cabs had manual latches. My 88 cab has no latches. The mechanism to lower and raise the top never worked so I have to manually open and close the top and then hit the rocker switch under the speedo to lock it in place.
To allow me to lower and raise the top manually, the PO removed one metal link from each side. This may help you at least raise and lower the top. If you cannot release the top from the locks above the windshield then that is another problem hope this helps.

Here you go, right out of my 86 manual.
![]() Just reverse the order. By the way, try the electrics first. Engine off, but ignition at first stop as if you were listening to the radio. If you undo the bolts as described, you will need to realign the transmissions. Tim

Anybody know what this tool is (blue arrow pointing to it)?
![]() I need to be able to operate the windshield latches manually and don't have the original toolkit. Thank you! |

derickc - the tool that the blue arrow is pointing to does not have to come from the original tool kit. The tool is described in step 4 of emergency operation as a screwdriver. You probably have a couple in your tool chest. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Hey guys,
Not to hijack this post, but how would you lock or unlock a power top on an 87 that does not have the access ports as shown in the photo to the right in derickc post? Step 4. talks about this is what you do if your electric locking system is defective. My 87 does not have those access ports.
