We don't need no stinking pavement (911 Rally Photos)

I shot these yesterday at the 2006 Sandblast Rally in Cheraw, SC. Though ya'll get a kick out of a dirt flinging 911T.

Talked to the driver a bit, the car is a 73T with a 3.2 motor bored out to 3.4 and a full Wevo 915 transmission. They were running on 175 rubber. The car seemed like a definite crowd favorite amongst all the STi and EVO hardware. I worked as track martial and ended only getting to see 1 stage, my first stage got cancelled when we found about 20 people on the stage collecting pine straw less than 10 minutes before the start! Oh well! Maybe next year I'll just go as a spectator, get more pictures that way...

Britt, dreaming about a C4S with a lift kit and nobbies...

Thanks for the pictures. Nice to see some of these cars being used and getting dirty ! Different strokes for different folks :-)

Gary Emory has an older 911 at his place that is all jacked up and has Martini colors on it. A dream machine for the dirt racers. Might be a blast, hill climbs are fun too.

Best,

Love it! That's awesome.

My medium term car dream after getting sufficiently up to speed with my impending 911 track car is to build a mild rally car. I've been thinking an E30 325, or Datsun 510 (like a BRE 510 but built for the dirt), and also, vaguely, a 944. That 911 sure looks hot though. Maybe best to keep it in the rear engine family!

Thanks for those.

Thanks for sharing. I just checked the rally home page and found this driver has proper form. Vic Elford would be so proud!

Rally 911s are just as freakin' cool to me as an asphalt pounder

I'd love to be able to run one like that.

Did you see the Michigan plate? With all the dirt roads around here that setup is needed to get home sometimes!

Young Jedi, See all those tall brown/grey/green things. Those are pine trees. Those long green things hanging up high. Those are pine needles. When the fall to the ground they make pine straw as seen in the lower right hand of the picture. Makes great landscaping material.

Matthew,
Pine Straw is mulch made from fallen pine needles...

i'd love to build a cheap rallye 911 on an early tub and just have fun with it until it either rusts to pieces of i break it from the fun. perfect marriage of redneck skills with european panache..

What an awesome sequence of photos of that 911 setting up for that right hander. You're right, Vic Elford would be proud.
