Does anyone know how loud megaphones are compared to my GHL muffler. I would like to cut the weight down by using megaphones but will the car be significantly louder? Also, are there any significant hp gains? I have back dated exhaust with SSI.
Thanks for any input. ![]()

Megaphones will be much, much louder. If you want to save weight, look into an M&K muffler, made by MB911 on the BBS and sold by Pelican. They are much lighter than stock mufflers and most others, and have top notch construction. The M&K might be good for some power increases too, but I'm unsure I've never seen a dyno sheet. If you really want to save weight M&K also makes some very small mufflers that attach like megaphones straight to your SSI's; they are louder than a normal muffler but are featherweight. See: MB 911 stinger tips for SSI: WOW!
There are HP gains to be made but the biggest gains for megaphones come from megaphones tuned for the engine; hot cams, MFI or carbs, big ports, high compression pistons, and a proper set of megaphones all work together to produce torque in a certain rev range (and are destructive to torque in another rev range). |
