Your 74 Carrera should have S calipers and 3.5 inch spacing. Was your suspension back dated at some point?

I think VCI makes adapters for 3" struts. Call and ask. It is just a matter of drilling holes on a different spancing. this would allow you to use any of the radial mount calipers.

Nope, they were 3" oem

If it was my car I would buy some 3.5" struts, then the whole world of brake upgrades(including their associted rotors) opens up for you, remember that unless the rotors are upgraded it's not a real upgrade.

Hi Bill:

Hmmm,...I'm not so sure,...

I bought my '74 Carrera new (which I still have) and it came with "S" struts as standard.

Even my '74 factory brochure says that "S" brakes are standard on the Carrera,..........

My old window sticker said "S" brakes were standard and as I ordered this car, I didn't pay extra for them,.....

PET is not always the last word on things,........

993s are supposed to have engine mounted oil filters, there are lots of cases of anomalous parts.

IIRC he measured the mounts at 3", Even posted a pic.

I don't believe that PET is wrong in this case

True, true,...I've seen a LOT of these particular cars over the past 30+ years and they all had either Koni or Bilstein struts.

Never seen one with Boge's from the Factory.

Maybe Yellow Bird can post his VIN? I'm real curios if he's even got a Carrera. It should have a front sway bar too, which would be visible in the photo he posted.

911 440**** is definitely a '74 G series US Carrera

My advice is the same regardless, get the 3.5" struts and go from there
choices are;
Carrera
930
964
993
GTP-L
GTP

I agree with that advise Bill. 3.5 inch struts and A or S calipers. Keep it Porsche. You'll have less trouble than if you try to develop your own brake system.

Interesting on the lack of front swaybar and S calipers. My Carrera is # 404 so it's close in production to Yellowbirds. It's always had S calipers, Bilstien 3.5 inch struts and the front sway bar. I've got the original invoice and none of these items are listed as an option but the "rear spoiler" is. Weird.

But look at it this way, struts don't last forever, I replaced my Bilstein inserts twice and the lower part(w/ the ears) once in a little more than 100k miles.
