Autoweek GT3 blurb

Apologies if this is a re-post.

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060224/FREE/60223010/1061

This, along with a raft of as yet unspecified internal changes that lighten the engine’s reciprocating masses, push Porsche’s latest racer to 415-hp at 7600rpm—55 hp more than the proceeding model, while boosting specific output of from 100.0 hp per liter to 115.3-hp per liter. At the same time, max rpm increases by 200 rpm, to an 8400 rpm redline

I thought the GT3 was putting out 380 or 385hp previously?

On paper that's right.... but most GT3s were actually putting down around 340-350hp at the wheels... so assuming 15% drivetrain loss that was already close to 400hp at the flywheel.

Still the new engine is impressive.

The only problem I have with the 997 GT3 is that it "seems" like they are softening it yet again...

Traction control, PASM, sat nav, possibly sunroof.

It will be quicker than the 996 GT3 without a doubt, but it will be an easier car to drive fast than its predecessor and its limits will be even higher.

So what is wrong with that? I think it is good that they make it easier to drive. The average buyer will never get anywhere near the limits and if some fool tries to impress someone on the street, the technology in this car may save his (or some innocnet bystander's) life.

I like it and would buy one if I could.

In my opinion the GT3 should more of a hardcore car. The 997 S is a fantastic car that is faster and easier to drive than the 996 GT3.

The 997 GT3 is going a little step further away from the original RS concept.

I guess market dynamics dictate manufacturer's choices... I am just questioning the need of sat nav on a supposedly focused sports car.

Sure.. they will continue to do that....
The GT3 was So desired until some people bought it and found out there were sacrafises to be made to own and drive a GT3.. and they didn't like it so they either sold or traded them in on something softer..
so the NEW 997 GT3 will be the car the buyers wanted.. the GT3 badge and look with a some what softer set up yet STILL very fast! it's sort of funny to me that we all in the US want the cars the Euro's have gotten for years that we have not. i.e. all the RS style machines.. we dream of having them.. and then once we get one... a good percentage of the buyers that wanted it don't anymore because they are too harsh ahahaha.. and the money POOR buggers like myself that would drive it every day can't afford one! hahahahaaah

I love it .. but yeah I wish it was a HARDCARE drivers car... but ya know guys as much as we all want it and all.. those day's are GONE! long GONE!..... the SAD thing is that once i can afford one.. they will have all be spec'd out with sunroofs and all the goodies.. yuck! ahahahah it's all in the long run MORE crap I'll have to tear out and throw away.

just my .02
