50mm PMO's too big for a 3.0l?
Came across a set of 50mm PMO's for sale. Too big for a stock 3.0l? How about a 3.0 with higher compression and wilder cam? I assume they could be jetted down?
TIA! -Brad

I've heard that even 46mm PMO's are a bit much for a street car, although with high CR and cams they might be OK. 40's for a stock to mostly stock motor. 50's would probably be better suited to a larger displacement race motor that's going to see WOT a lot. BTW, how much?

The throttle plates are to large to create fuel atomization properly on a stock 3.0. You size a carb based on the engine air flow demands. Airspeed through the carb is the game. Bigger is not always better.

A high performance 3.0 with twin plugs and racy cam wants 46mm carbs.

As Tom said, those are FAR too big for a 3.0 of any kind,....
![]() 46's would be just perfect and they can be configured for any state of tune.

Too much CFM is not always a good thing. When you switch to carbs and go to bigger CFM. If you don't change your cam grind you engine will loose some of the 'quick' in acceleration. You get more high end horse power but boogs donw of the line. Every Chevrolet engine builder knows that.

I just searched my name and Chevy. I found over 20 different thread topics where I dropped the name Chevy.
