valuable replicas. right?
This...
AUCTION CALENDAR is a link to a selection of "collector cars" amassed by Ponzi schemer Jeffrey Mowen. A total of some 300 of them are being auctioned off by the Gummint. The two things that interest me are, 1/assuming these are the best of the lot, what was the guy thinking? And 2/that so many of these cars are replicas, including all of the Porsches except for a '97 Boxster, which I wouldn't keep if you gave me one, much less add it to "a collection."

I 2nd the thought on the red Pantera (I'd take the yellow one too). It will be interesting to see what these cars bring. I had a '73 Pantera....What a beast that car was!

Wow, some weird junk.
At least some of the money he stole went back into the economy here and not oversees.....Actually some of those had to come from oversees. Why the heck would you want two maroon 1932 MB replicas????

I have a replica 59 carrera. It's an absolute blast to drive. When I want a little white knuckle fun I'll take on the back roads and push it's limits (60-65 mph) on the twisties. Driving a slow car fast is in many ways very fun.
There are a lot of great looking old American cars there. I'd take just about any of them. I love my 911 as much if not more than any car I've ever had, but that's probably because there aren't many cars I'll turn my nose up at, I don't think I've ever met a car I didn't like for some reason or another. |

There are several in there that I would have in my own collection.
I guess I have odd... er... eccentric tastes. Either (or both) Panteras 69 Nova 67 Beetle the sandrail the General 73 Barracuda 67 Camaro 31 HiBoy the Cobra replica and of course, I want the 95 Fiat Barchetta

some of those cars are pretty valuable, too many of them are junque. Many of the collectibles have some ungodly mods done to them, but I suppose some could be restored to original.
This guy seriously had too much money to burn.

Strange - but - the pictures are of the same vehicle. The handprints etc on the dust are identical. I wonder if its an inventory error or they just don't have the correct picture of the "other MB replica"?

It's part of the Ponzi scheme - sell the same vehicle twice at the same auction.. collect the money.. let the two buyers duke it out in court!

Dont get me wrong there are a lot of cars there that I would play with, but in the context of a $100MM "collector" why would you bother? The Cobra Replica and the Speedster Replicas, Pantera, NSX all cool but....weird junk for some one in that price bracket I would think.
The weird thing is there is not too many really valuable cars there...maybe those got gone already and they left the odd stuff. I would think there would be a few F cars, Ford GT, a real 356 etc. etc. scattered in there. I bet you are right and that is an error in the listing on the MB.

What if they're wrong and some of those "replicas" are actually real?

They inserted the wrong picture twice. One is maroon, one is red. The red on is in the background.

Most of those American cars will sell for some pretty good bucks, I saw at least 10 I would love to have, but they will be worth more than my Porsche. Try to buy a 65 Chevelle Wagon. A 69 Nova SS, a 70 GTO Judge. Or most of the other American cars. Even the General Lee which is possibly a clone.
