Horn problem / steering column bushing
I've got a problem with my horn ('85 911 coupe). It will work when the steering wheel is straight and the car is standing still. Whilst driving it isn't. Now I've read somewhere that replacing the plastic bushing in the steering wheel column for a metal one can fix the problem.
Is there somebody who can confirm this? BTW I've no problems at all with the steering(wheel) itself. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140812638.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1140813409.jpg Thanks, Kees. SmileWavy |
Bump.

Try raising the metal contact for your horn...It is the metal piece at the top of your photo. Do this a little at a time.

Nine9six,
I'll try this. Thank you, Kees. SmileWavy |
Also, clean and polish the brass circular disk on the back of the steering wheel, that the horn contact blade wipes.

I had the exact same problem and installing the metal sleeve/bushing solved it. It also improved the steering feel. With the steering wheel already off, it's about a 5 minute job to hammer in the sleeve. I used a large socket that fit over the steering shaft, and lined up with the sleeve, and then hammered it in.
