How much of a pane is it to attemp to do a valve adjust without dropping the engine?

Cheers John

Much easier than dropping the motor and then adjusting them. Rather, the adjustment part is easier with the engine out but adding the R&R of the engine to the adjustment is just making work for yourself.

You need very flexible wrists and fingers, lots of time and the enjoyment of working on your P-car. It takes me 2 1/2 hours. But, I'm likely slower than most.

Have fun....

Just did my first v-adjust las weekend. Not bad at all. Got all the
info from this forum. Do yourself a favor and buy a few extra set of
blades. It took me two blades and two valves before I got the hang of
it. Intake # 6 is really hard to see.

What the others have said - it's really not that bad. Unless you're dropping the engine for another reason (oil leak for example) there's no need to remove the engine just for a valve adjustment

Along with what the Lord Douche Bag said, if you've never done it, I would wait for an excuse to pull the motor. Adjusting valves with motor out is simple. The next valve adj. with it in will be much easier. You know how to do it and where everything is located then. IMO

I think I'll attempt my first valve adjust when I remove the carbs again to rebuild them. That should make it easy to get my face in there and see what's going on. I think I should probably also get some turbo valve covers while I'm at it...

True enough, take your time! that is the secret to p-car ownership. Like most things in life, if you rush you will break something or piss someone off or get mad yourself. One thing to know about p-car ownership is "p-car ownership is not about instant gratification except when you are accelerating down the road " It is about an appreciation and learning.

Don't do what I did and force your distributor cap back on after the valve adjustment! I broke the rotor and cap upon attempted restart. Other then that the adjustment is pretty easy.

Don't Leave them Loose!
