71 in a 71

I turned 71 in January and I'm driving a 71 T (purchased in 76) and I'm enjoying driving it and working on it now more than ever!

The Picture is from the recent Portland Parade, our first!

My question: How many other over 70 Pelicans are there? Are you one? Do you know any?

Tom

Tom,

I’m close and anticipating my ‘70’s, ‘80’s, ‘90’s and more.

Good for you.

Best,
Grady

Tom, if you have aged as well as your car, you're doing great.

Hope I can reach 79 in my '79.

Grady - It is good to hear from you. Because of the fact that you have owned your 911 longer than any other Pelican, I thought that you also might be in the 70ish group.

I think Steve W of Gold Plated Porsche is in the zone, as well!

It continues to get better, doesn't it?

Jeez, now you've set the water mark. I'll have to buy a '61. I had a '60, but it was a turd. OTOH, how 'bout a car from your year of birth? A lot of Pelicans can qualify for that and I think that's neat that a GenX'r would buy a '70's car.

Here's an older photo that didn't upload on first try. I think technolology is going a lot faster than I am!

In January 2005, I had a total knee replacement which has worked out wonderfully. Last week I had Laminectomy L2,3,4,5 and S1 which seems to be working out quite well.

So Maybe I am aging as well as the car, with both of us having some new parts installed recently.

I'm a little limited right now, no twisting, no bending, no lifting more than 15 lbs and I'm wondering how others are handling similar situations. ( I find that I'm buying a lot more labor saving-mechanical advantage type of stuff).

Tom,

Great to hear of your medical successes, and that you enjoy working on the car more than ever! And, a great-looking car it is!

At 56+, I'm working on the 30th year of ownership for the same car, but every encounter with hospitals seems to take longer and longer to recover from ... they just seem to keep practicing and practicing on me, and I spend less time on the cars ...

57 in a 71

Thanks, guys, you've given me some needed inspiration.

I'm only 57 but find myself sitting here recuperating from a surprise quadruple bypass that saved my life. I was thinking maybe I should give up on the '71 Targa, but not after I read your posts.

Mine looks like yours when you started, Tom. All the mechanicals are done (except for a few oil leaks and the bodywork is next when I get back on my feet.

Jerry,

Good to hear that your bypass "took" and that you are among the living! I went out to my garage today with a lot of enthusiasm and caution and realized my back is a few weeks away from Prime Time. So what I did was set up a comfortable chair, put on some pleasant music (I prefer classical) and had a "Ponder Session" while admiring My Car Spot .

I think what I will do is make a comprehensive list of projects and rank order them, then research the books and board to establish some sort of working plan.

This should keep me busy and out of trouble until my physical health matches my enthusiasm and motivation.

How about you, Jerry! Have you got a plan yet?

Best,
Tom

Thanks, Tom, it's good to be vertical! Actually I'm feeling great and the doc's keep telling me my recovery is 'remarkable'.

I don't have a prioritized list, but I do have a cache of parts bought from our host waiting for installation.

I'm new to the forum and will post pic's, especially my favorite before and after of the engine bay, as soon as I figure out how to do it. It may take a few days but I'll get it done.

My color code is 8080, I think that was silver. Is that the same as yours?
