Part of the Porsche conga line on Sepulveda

The red 917 is a replica built by a company in Australia. The owner just got it a few weeks ago and hasn't driven it more than 10 feet yet. Apparently, it is almost identical to a real 917 except that it has a 3.6 engine out of a 993. Very nice looking piece and thanks to the owner for bringing it out.
|
Thanks to Wayne for an opportunity to gather amongst our Porsche-crazed peers. The stories from Mr. Redman were incredible. I agree, David, pro racing in those days was something which was much safer to fantasize about rather then to participate. Too bad our Mulholland run was squelched by all the traffic, especially that Lexus lady! The blue truck was a bit scary, as he kept catching up!! All in all a great time.
|
I am dying to know what price they got for the lot of 917+ 908 etc engines does anybody know?
|
Mr. Redman said the bid was already up to 5 mil (I don't know if he was kidding or not).
|
I thought I'd add a few pictures.

Well how much did they sell for?

Here is a few pics that I took with Sung driving his red RSR. We werent going to Pelican but did make it to TRE to say hello to the guys.
Dan. Stay puff is looking good. Anyway we left about 10 minutes before everyone yet Dave B seemed to catch up to us on Mulhuland Drive. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143347735.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143347755.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143347781.jpg |

Kevin,
I'm in the first pic you posted early this evening, the Silver 76’ Pcar with 76 ball on its antenna. By the way, it’s a wonderful shot, you couldn’t have planned it any better. Three Porsches lined up so that their headlights cascade into the distance, very nice! I’m also sorry I missed meeting you today. However, I enjoyed meeting Porcupine today. She’s a beautiful Pcar and she has a very nice owner who knows how to get the most out off her. IMO she’s sexy and her owner is very handsome, his wife should be wary of their Pcar. By the way, it’s to bad Dan from Pasadena had so much fun last week. If he would have stayed home last weekend, we might have gotten the chance to meet him this weekend. I agree with you Kevin, it would be fun to celebrate BBII's new hair dew, just kidding Jack. She's as lethal as she is beautiful. What would be appropriate? IMO it would start with a warm-up period flowed up with lots of twists, ?, ?, ?, followed by drinks and a meal, concluded with a cruise home.. It would also be nice if all of us in the Pasadena area could meet up in the near future. Even if it was just for coffee, so we could meet and exchange numbers. Who knows it might even be fun to start our own “Non-sanctioned Street Groupa”. The following note is for Dave: Dave, you drop your trans today and now you want a “STREET SWEEPER”? What’s up with that??? Sure the guy in the STREET SWEEPER blow our ass away going down Sepulveda Blvd., but wanting a WATER COOLED STREET SWEEPER with a supercharged engine that produces 410 hp, that’s just sick. “No harm meant - all in fun” To all, good night! Larry |
Yesterday was another fun event. Its was great meeting some new people and seeing some friends I havent seen in awhile.
Joeseph, Thanks for the compliment! Stay Puff cleans up pretty good. I look forward to seeing your project completed and on the road. Dave, thanks for opening the doors to TRE and sorry about the tranny issue. Wayne, A big thanks for arranging such an event and Brian R. was fantastic. As some have said already, racing in those days was a little different then today. Brian seemed to have had more then his share of hospital visits. ;) |
I came all the way from Massachusetts to attend Wayne's event (Actually I had business in the area so I figured I'd extend the trip a couple days and take in the P-Car event and the Rock Store this morning)
Fantastic time at both venues! Brian's talk was very entertaining. Some fantastic cars out there on the WEST coast.......... |
Thanks again, everyone for making this a great event. The next Pelican Open House (maybe 2 years from now?) - it will be tough to top this one!
-Wayne |
Geez, looks like your open house was a flop!!! :) Nice Job on organizing that Wayne, very nicely done. I darn near flew down for it! Looks like a great time.
On another note, I just love that orange 356, the one with the "356R' plate. That is what my 356 would look like, if I ever buy one. Reminds me of my dads 60 S90 that he sold 25 years ago! Once again, nice job Wayne, you are a steward to the Porsche Enthusiast Community for sure! Cheers |
If anyone is interested, information on the 917 replica at the open house can be found at the builder's website:
http://www.kraftwerkz.net/news.htm There are even two pics of the one that was at the open house. Full Pelican prior discussion thread: http://66.236.61.177/showthread.php?threadid=194940 |
I think the 917 Replica was at California Speedway today. I didn't see it run...

Yes, that's the one!

...any more pictures of the gal at the check-in desk?? :)
|
I didn't get to go to the open house, but I did install about $300 worth of tune up parts on my 911 :)
|
P.S. Forgot to ad they were from pelican.
|
Thanks to Wayne and Pelican Parts for a great event!
I agree- do a once a year swap and show with a significant Porsche racontuer of tall stories. Of course you would have to do it mid year so it would not hurt the other two big Porsche related shows My "evil" 914-6: Yep- blew the mainshaft into two pieces. Not bad for over 12 years of use and abuse on and off the track. Still hurt$$ ! Thanks to all that met up here for the caravan |
Thanks Wayne for a GREAT event!
Hearing Brian Redman recount his amazing racing stories was great~ was my first time out to TRE, and was just itching to get on the road for the run over to Pelican after a pit stop in SM... Brian also signed my new LeMans replica jacket which was cool... I saw my first Porsche race cars as a kid growing up in Hermosa Beach next to his dealership on PCH and later met him at the historics... Cheers, Patrick |

chuck miller's 73 S with real RS flares, TRE rollbar, oe sport seats, 2.7 RS internals on the original motor VERY nice car!
|
Hay, who parked that yellow vette in the middle of all them p-cars? that's almost as bad as a black Audi ;)
j/k |
Very big thanks to Wayne and all of the Pelican People for hosting the event - definitely a treat. Also, seeing all of those beautiful P-cars gave me more motivation to keep working to get mine back on the road.
Sorry to go off topic, but what is the story behind the peace sign sticker on the breather housing of that blue '73 S? What does it denote? Can they be found aftermarket? |
Goode,
The 'peace sign' I think you're referring to is the logo for the Kendall motor oil I've been running in all my cars for the last 40 years or so.......... ;) Hope this helps, Cheers, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143495839.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143495854.gif http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143495870.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1143495915.jpg |
Would also like to thank Wayne for hosting a GREAT event...http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif
Cheers, |
We like to mix it up and change it around when we can. I'm thinking that since we had such a huge success this weekend, that we'll do more events in the future. A summer evening barbeque by the beach (Dockweiler) has been kicked around for years now.
I'm also thinking of starting a "Northern Crystal Cove" gathering in the Redondo Beach Villiage (walking distance from my house). I think that it's too much of a pain to drive to CC in OC - I would think there would be plenty of people who would like to head for an early SAT morn drive to RB for some coffee (Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf are right there). Thoughts? -Wayne |
I hear-dat Wayne...http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...ool_shades.gif
|
Thanks for the info on the sticker, Chuck - very cool. That is one sweet ride that you have there, and a beautiful color too!
Wayne, I live in Redondo as well and would definitely be up for meeting up with other Pelican Heads. Unfortunately, until I get my 911 back on the road, my Saturday mornings are reserved for mechanicing (as well as Sat afternoons and Sundays). Prost!, Kyle |
Kyle,
Your welcome..... and... thanks very much...:) Wayne, OR......... Somewhere in the South-Western San Fernando Valley, where we can 'drive' these cars after we look at'm ... ;) Cheers, |
CC on Sat., RB on Sunday
Wayne,
How about mixing days? On Saturday, you have Crystal Cove AND Derelict Donuts. Not sure what to do on Sundays? Sundays in RB would be alot of fun, no conflicts on where to go. Saturdays go South, Sundays North...... BTW: GREAT time at the Open House, lots of fun. |
Indeed. The 917 TOWERS over a 914. Its length is basically the length of a driver virtually lying down, an engine and a tranny. That's it. In racing, size matters. The best things come in small (lightweight) packages.
