Question Resonance Tips?

I know some of the 3.6 transplant owners have cured exhaust drones by using resonating or resonance tips on their exhausts.

I wondered if anyone could point me to an example, posts pictures or tell me where I can buy such a thing? How have you found them to work? Effective? A little quiter?

Any info greatfully received.

Thanks,
Richard

I just ordered a pair of Monza tips that are packed. I have a 2.7 with a magnaflow and it is very loud. The muffler guy I use said that only packed tips will help.

The brand was recommended by the board and my muffler shop.

Any feedback on how much they actually reduced the noise by? Maybe you haven't got them yet.

I have used Monza tips without success on other applications. I've had better luck with Supertrap ends. They are available in many looks and sizes these days thanks to Hot Rods. Not 100% sold on their idle quality, but work well at throttle. Just an idea and adjustable DIY as needed for application and use.

I just ordered the Monza tips. They are slide on so I plan on putting them on with clamps to listen first before welding. If they do not do anything they are going to Ebay. I do have a set of SuperTrapps but they will restrict more air flow than I want. When I ran the SuperTrapps I got a much high pitched sound than with the Magnaflow. I have not tried the SuperTrapps as tips, they are just too long for my application.

I'll update the thread when I test them. It will probably be serveral weeks, I just sent my dist. off to be recured.

If there is room you could weld in some pulse traps, it worked well on my B&B headers but not sure on a stock exhaust?

Its a cone inside the pipe, kind of like a one way valve that traps the pulse wave from traveling back up the exhaust at specific rpm's

Hi Richard

Are you doing a 3.6 or is this just general intrest - I have just finnished my 3.6 conversion and the muffler I got from timmins is 1 "H" box with resonator tips that bolts up the the HE's. I was really concerned that it was going to be too loud however Steve Timmins asured me that it wont be too bad and that the resonator tips he fitted also make quite a difference. They are made by a company called Vibrant, heres a few pics:
