Factory service manual PDF - REMOVED!
I have removed this thread. Shame on the people here to post an illegal upload of both the factory workshop manuals, and the Bentley Workshop Manual. Do you think that these books simply write themselves? If you want to support the community and the resources that people like me develop for it, then you should legally purchase the manuals. I'm particularly disappointed that someone appears to have bootlegged the Bentley Manual. In addition, Pelican sells these books on this site, and the revenue generated by those sales directly supports the operation of this free BBS.
Many people have asked me to write a transmission book. When I see things like this I say to myself, "why bother?" -Wayne

Bentley? Agree. Your books? Agree. Your points are well made and I'm sure everyone here supports you, Adrian Streather and others who have gone to the trouble of researching and writing books that help us all.
Factory service manuals are another matter. Not legally, perhaps, but from the past threads on this topic it's pretty clear that many Porsche owners are not so myopic as to think every copyright issue exists only in black and white. I think we all can make our own moral and ethical judgements on these issues. |

Wayne, I bought your book for twenty bucks. I'll buy your parts as I need them with the money saved not paying $500 + for the factory manual sets, which is a ridiculous price for ink on paper IMHO, even if they are tastefully bound in red with the P-word embossed. As far as the link posted, it's common knowledge. Internet downloads are a huge grey area, if they were specifically illegal, I'm sure everyone online would be some kind of criminal. Printing out for one's own use? Probably helps you more than it hurts. How else would I know which parts to order from your site? I'm sure as hell not going to the Porsche dealer to buy them. That being said, I'll not step on any more toes with 'file sharing'. Truth be told, there's probably more copyright infringement with downloaded images of Porsche factory racing than text on the Pelican site.
Regards, Joe

I agree the link shouldn't have been posted, even though thousands of Pelicanites already know about it.
However, I support your business and this site by buying parts from you on a regular basis (including the Bentley manual). Parts I could easily buy from your competitors, often more cheaply. As your customer, I would appreciate not being scolded by you. A calmer tone would have been more appropriate. |

Whether or not one agreed with the posting of the link it "was" linking to copyrighted materials for free download which is illegal IMHO. I think the thread had to be removed to cover ones collective behind and ethically the posting of a link to copyrighted materials is just plain wrong :-(
