2.4 W/ 2.2 High Compression Mod
Has anyone every dyno'd a 2.4 modified with higher compression 2.2 P &C's? If not, any predictions. Stock mfi setup.
Now, how about a 2.4 w/86mm P&C's (now a 2.5 I suppose!) with GE40 cams and ported heads. Any dyno or estimated results as to HP gain over the previous setup? Engine is being built as we speak. It's pathetic - I am like a kid who can' wait for Christmas day to come. Thanks. |
I have a 2.4T that I think has been modified with 2.2S P&Cs.
See the following link. Rear wheel horsepower is shown. Dyno Sheet |
I wouldn't expect the Hi-CR 2.4 to really make a whole lot more HP then a regular 2.4 -- something a little bit less then the % increase in CR. I would expect it to have a flatter torque curve though.
As far as a 2.5, without looking at my numbers (I don't have any benchmarks for the GE40 cam), but I'd guess it would be just shy of 200 HP or so. |

i have a 2.4E made from a 2.2E. i use webers, not mfi.
on separate occasions and separate dynos, i have ranged between 165-172 Hp at the wheels. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1139345047.jpg the labels on the dyno are jetting sizes, not hp numbers. see upper left for Hp. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095049856.jpg you can also look up my callsign for more info... good luck. |
If your motor is with Henry, did you ever think to ask him? He can surely tell you within 5-10 HP.
Vr, Bavaria911 |
I did ask Henry and he concurred - what I was more interested in was the "before" picture", which I never had. The engine was rebuilt by a prior owner. He attempted to increase output by raising the CR w/ the 2.2 P&C's. However, he never dyno'd the car, and neither did I. Then it smoked so bad that off it went to Henry.

How do you get to a 2.5 configuration?
I know to get to a 2.2 / 2.4 with; Case = 2.2 Crank = 2.4 / 2.7 Pistons = 2.2 Es Cylinders = 2.2 Cams = E Fuel Deliver = MFI or Carb Heads = 2.2 New Disp = 2.4L Compression 10:1 But the 2.5... How is that achieved and what are the goods and bads to either of these configurations? Thanks everyone. Eric |
If you go with a 1mm overbore (85 mm's ) on the P&C's you'll wind up with a "2.5".

my 2.5L (actually 2,481cc) was pushing 205+ (flywheel) with 10.37:1CR courtesy of Mahle 86mm pistons, cams and mfi, mods
you are gonna like it! Bill K |
Bill,
What type of components did you use? Crank, Pistons, Cams, etc? How do you like the performance? Is it a short stroker. Thanks for the help. Eric |
crank is stock 2.4L, pistons and cylinders, as mentioned, are Mahle 86mm (ala 908), cams are Elgin custom grind, mfi reworked by H&R, Long Island, heads by Ray Litz @ Competition Engineering, ported & flowed, and a bunch of trick stuff like forged rockers, Carillo rods, light-weight wrist pins, sodium filled valves, gutted muffler (2in- 1out), etc, etc.
performance is nice. able to chirp the rears on the uphill after the toe of the boot at the Glen on the 3-4 shift, while I'm doing all my passing. limiting factor on the car is the wheels and tires. I never did the flare thing and run a 16x6 w 205-55 tire. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1142000645.jpg |
SWEET CAR!!! I love it. = ) I love that engine. Its MFI not carb?
Thanks again for all the great info! Eric |
|
205 HP... Wow. That would be great!!! Again, I am impressed. = ) What do you guess the total cost of the engine was? Is the case a 3R or a 7R?
I have a 2.2 and a 2.4 Engine. The 2.4 has a 7R case. I was thinking about punching out the 2.2 to a 2.4, but if I can get to 205 HP by buying larger pistons that might be best... But it sounds like you have many other additions to yours. Eric |
case was the original one that was in the 73, second rebuild. total cost was way more than I care to admit, (my wife might be looking on). work was done about 6-7 yrs ago, and there was no expense spared. fyi case had to machined to accept the 86mm jugs. check out this thread to see where the car is now.

OHHH Your killin me... You got rid of that sweet car? = )
Thats the way hobbies go. Spend all your money on it to get it where you want and then once you are finally happy, you sell it to get something you can start working on again. = ) LOL Still SWEET Stuff!!! Eric |
not so fast on the sympathy part Eric, it's still in the family.
Here's a final shot with the next 'project' car... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1142004287.jpg |
I am building a spare 2.5L long stroke race motor right now. I am waiting for the Aluminum case and heads to get done by Ollies. I will be using 86.7MM custom J&E pistons at 10.5 or 11:0 to 1 compression. Since I am using SC intake valves, I have to use a GE 60 profile cam because of valve overlap. This motor will be a screamer with better torque than my short stroke 2.5L. I have a feeling I will love this motor just like my short stroke Aase built. 2.5L's are great sounding motors! I have 46mm PMO's on mine.
Good luck, and have fun with it. Here is my 2.5L short stoke dyno numbers at the wheels: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1142004507.jpg |
