Big Red Kit Upgrade?

I need some help on an upgrade for a 1976 - 930 Turbo. currently the brakes on the car are good but not for the power this thing has. the current tire/wheel size are
front - 205/50/vr15
rear - 285/40z/r15

the wheels are custom made and I would hate to lose them. anyone out there that has upgraded the brakes on an older model 930 please feel free to either pm me or list the steps I have to take to do so.

all feedback is appreciated

thanks.

I assume your early 930 has the stock aluminum "S" calipers up front and M calipers in the rear. What is the problem withthe brakes? Are you tracking the car? If so, they are probably inadequate. for street use they should be fine when properly setup (pads) unless the car has been modified.

Big reds will not fit under 15 or 16" wheels. your best bet would be a later 930 setup. (78-89)

There is also another option using Kieth Alexanders set up if cost is an issue. He runs Boxermotorsports and the kit is very strong and the price is impossible to beat. You can contact him at: ka911@charter.net
RenegadeHybrids also offers a kit that does not require adapters. You can read their press release here: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/pr/pr2_7.html

I'm not a brake expert but just thought I'd throw these out there.

Of course if you want to move to a 17 inch wheel, you can always use a set up like this....

'78-80 930 fits but there are issues

This is a 930 setup on an RSR

Note the proximity of the rim to the caliper

In extreme situations the heat is transfered to the bead causing the tire to fail in that area, for normal use not an issue, but something to think about.

as an aside, those are pretty skinny front tires, if going to turbo brakes definitely think about some more meat up front

Upgraded brake kit

This is an awsome forum, getting the feedback and knowing that someone is always ready to assist & help is a truly comfortable feeling. escpecially to those of us that just took the leap and became first time Porsche owners.

Thanks all.
