RS carpet question
Those that have installed the RS rear seat delete carpet:
Do you install the carpet directly to the rear tray as you do the rest of the kit, or do you install in ontop of the vynal interior tray cover? If it goes directly to the metal, what do you do with the mounting points for the tray cover, etc? Cut them off? ![]()

misleading title, but check this thread:
I removed all of those clips, or pounded them flat. Mostly, I cut them out with a die grinder. UPDATE # 3 ANOTHER RSR CLONE IN SOCAL (bit o' suspension bling)

depends on how much heat you want transferred from the drivetrain to the interior. Noise would be up too. Since you show the early coupe rear shelf with the cross bar, we have seen clients do with or without it. If you leave the other brackets w/o the insulation, then you end up with the pieces showing up as bumps in the carpet. There is an intermediate step- get some vinyl top foam to smooth out all the nooks and crannies- that way you get some sound and thermal insulation

Use 2" velcro hooks too in places where you want to remove the carpeting again (like the trans tunnel / shift linkage access or the front carpets.
The velcro hooks stick right to the felt like carpeting. Doug

Thanks guys.
Doug, yes I used velcro for the tunel of my 74. Interesting thing is, I never read a post of anyone doing that. I just decided it would be a good idea in the event I would later need to do some tunnel work. Great minds think alike, I guess. Dave, thanks. So, you've seen clients carpet over the stock interior piece, or do you mean you've seen clients just run the piece and not use that part of the carpet set?

I cut them off and wish I hadn't. If I had it to do again, I'd shape a lightweight board (maybe foamcore?) to fit the rear deck and glue the carpet to that.

We've had clients reinstall the cross bar over the carpet- looks neat too. Otherwise use RallyJon's suggestion: thick piece of foam board

I kept the original side and rear panels and used the leftover perlon around the rear window and B pillar. My headliner was removed for the cage install.
There is a lot of heat that will come through, particularly in the rear seat area from the heater boxes. I recently added "hot rod firewall" insulation from Jegs under the carpet. ![]()
